desktop app not working on mac 10.15.7

After a recent update on my mac (running Catalina 10.15.7) the desktop app has stopped working. It appears in the application folder but when I doubleclick on it it quits before even opening. I have unistalled and reinstalled it multiple times, including using the directions for the advanced install. The Dropbox icon appears on the dock, but not in the menu bar. If I insist trying to open it, I also get an error messages saying "The application "Dropbox" is not open anymore".

Hey @mitzu5, thanks for reaching out to our Community!

Can you please send me a screenshot of the error message you're getting, so I can check it out?

And also, can you uninstall the Dropbox app and then reinstall it from this link, which is our offline installer, to see if it works?

Hello Hannah,

 

Thank you for the suggestion, however, I had already tried installing using the link that you provided. I ran the installer again and this is the error message I get when I try to open the app on my computer.

Hi @mitzu5, although you've done it preiovusly, could you do the advanced reinstallation again, and reboot the machine before installing the app, just to be certain.

If you get the error message, could you forward a recording showing your opening the Dropbox desktop application from the Applications menu, to when you get this message?

Hello Jay,

I installed dropbox and reinstalled it from here. 

I also took a screen videorecording trying to open the app, but it seems that I can't attach the video here because it's not a supported format (.mov). At the end, the app quit before I could enter my credential to sign in.
