Dropbox desktop sync on multiple computer using same folder

Dropbox desktop sync on multiple computer using same folder

Currently using Dropbox desktop with the folder location on an external hard drive. When I try to setup my laptop to use the same Dropbox folder it says "Error with selected folder: This folder already contains a Dropbox directory." which is what I want to use seeing as it's the same dropbox account.

It is 1TB folder so I would like to link it to that vs. make a new duplicate 1TB folder of the same files.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Hi @PV_creative, thanks for messaging today!

In general, if you have the Dropbox folder on an external drive and try to use the same folder on another machine, then it won't allow this since the Dropbox folder can only be accessed by the original desktop app.

This is for security and privacy purposes, as well as preventing permission errors.

If you need any more details, feel free to message back!
