Online Only Files Reverting Back to Local
Hi Community ! I'm having an ongoing issue where any file or folder that I smart sync as 'online only' reverts back to local almost immediately. For a moment the file icon with show that it is an online only file, and moments later I will get the blue sync icon, and then the files will redownload to my computer and become local.
Im using a mac, and not using any antivirus software that might interfece. I'm also not opening any of the files, they revert to being local files without my opening them.
I cant seem to find any support on this specific issue so any help would be very much appreciated - thanks !
Hi 92cafe, thanks for messaging today!
It sounds like you could be experiencing this issue on your device.
I'd recommend checking out all of those possibilities to see if they could be the cause.
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for your help - it was the browser extention on 3rd party software. I removed the dropbox folder from the software browser, made the smart sync adjustment, and once synced reopened my 3rd party software and readded dropbox to the browser. The issue was then resolved.

"it was the browser extention on 3rd party software. I removed the dropbox folder from the software browser,"
What does this mean?
Thanks a lot

Hi dreamboxdownunder, this means that another application on the computer was requesting the files to be downloaded from Dropbox, causing them to become local files with Smart Sync.
The browser extension would have been part of that app. The user essentially prevented the app from accessing the Dropbox folder so that this wouldn't happen again. - jayeproximacro5 years agoExplorer | Level 4
I don't understand how to correct this problem. I'm having the same issue. Drop box reverts to local files. I'm constantly having to change the setting.

In my case it was a 3rd party software (Adobe Premiere) - it has a browser within the software and it was taking files from my dropbox. So everytime I would open that software, it would bring the offline files back online.
Check if you have a software like this that has a browser within it.

I don't know how to check whether any of my third party software has a browser in it. Can you explain how to do this?

Hi, I am having this same problem but on Windows. Like Oliver F.3 said, I don't understand how to check if a 3rd party software has a browser in it? Does anyone know how to search for this? Thanks!

I too am having this problem. Did I miss something or has no one talked about this since September, or is it being discussed on a different thread? I'd really like to have a systematic way of figuring out what third party software or browser is causing this behavior because very soon I'm going to run out of space on my hard drive when these files come storming back to local, and will have to put a lot of them on an external drive. Thanks!
