PDF files altered by Apple users when the files are shared

PDF files altered by Apple users when the files are shared

I have PDF files created on PC on dropbox with embedded hyperlinks. If someone with an applle product clicks on the links several issues happen. 1. the link does not work. 2. the link in the master file is deleted.

My fix was to not allow changes for most people. My problem is if I view a file with my IPad these changes happen. I cant restrict myself from editing. So now what other than never touching an Apple product in relation to dropbox?

Hi @HAL Pilot, thanks for posting today!

Are the embedded links linking to a non-Dropbox location, a relative link to another location in the PDF, or something else entirely?

How have you shared the PDF file with other users, is it via a shared folder, shared file or a shared link to the file?

This will help me to assist further!

mostly shared folder with a link to the folder. I don't mind sharing the link to a test folder. this one allows edits. as if I was logging in vs. the non edit I use with most folks.

You mentioned two things, a shared folder, and a shared link to the folder.

Which did you provide to those users, as both of these are different in the features provided?

Shared folder. But its a link to the shared folder. here is the link. This one is read only for the folks going to it.

Please don't provide any shared links on the community for security and privacy purposes.

Are you certain that the users who are editing the files aren't also invited and are members of the shared folder itself? Are they previewing the file or link via a desktop or mobile Apple device?

I used to give edit permission to group users but stopped due to the issue of Mac systems changing the hyperlinks. Do everyone is now read only except me. I logged on as me from an IPad the other day and saw that I was loosing links if I tried to click on them.
2 issues here. I can only use these files from a pc or windows notebook without making unwanted changes. It would be nice to reference the files from an iPad though so I can work around that issue. But for Mac users how come they can't use hyperlinks? Is there a fix?

Hey @HAL Pilot - sorry to jump in here, but could you clarify how you're accessing the files on your iPad and/or Mac devices?

Is it through the app or via a web browser?

I open the File from the Dropbox app using Adobe

The files shouldn't be edited from the app if there is no edit access. Have you tried to duplicate this behavior on their end to what options they are seeing?
