Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I just installed Dropbox Basic and before I could anything my Desktop is missing "My Documents Folder" and I did a search and all of the files are listed within it are 5 months old. Any idea what happened and how can I get everything back to normal.
Hi @Scarleg, thanks for messaging the Community!
I'm sorry to hear about this matter. It sounds like you enabled the automatic computer backup feature in the Dropbox desktop application. Could you first try disabling the computer backup from Dropbox using the steps in the above article to see if this helps?
Afterwards, you can move the folders and files back to their previous locations, which will also delete them from the Dropbox account online. If there are any deleted files, try recovering them from the Dropbox site.
Hope this helps!
Thank you Jay, I am putting everything back together but I have PDF files on my Desktop and if I try accessing them from the Desktop I get "Directory Name Is Invalid" but if I open Explorer and go to the same file it opens. In both instances the file is located in the same spot. I have a couple of Excel files in the same location and they are not affected.
Hey @Scarleg, thanks for getting back to us.
When you mention that the file is located in your Desktop, are you referring to your local Desktop folder or the Dropbox desktop app?
If you could send us a screenshot of the error message, that would also be very helpful.
Keep us posted!
Thanks for your swift reply, @Scarleg.
Could you try rebooting your computer and letting me know if that improves the behavior?
I rebooted before I sent you the earlier message and no change. I rebooted again after your message and it now works. Strange. Thank you for your help.
