Add an option to remove Dropbox items from the desktop context menu

Where is the registry entry for "Share dropbox Link" and "View on Dropbox.com." Between other registry edit and Context Cleaner I have found the rest of the context menu entries and removed them.

Dropbox people--PLEASE remove these context menu entries in the next upgrade. You do realize that if users have a large dropbox with lots of files that these entries slow down right clicks? It can often take 5+ seconds for my context menu to come up when these are there. I can't work productively with that kind of slow down and will have to move to another service if I can't remove them or if I have to jump through more hoops to remove them again after the next upgrade..

@Eric,

I have not tried it but believe this would indeed accomplish the goal you were looking for.

However it would also remove the syncing, synced indicators. Some may not want that. Just throwing that out there in case someone reads this topic.

 Cheers,

That's odd, I don't have that??

Try a quick reinstall, that will usually fix most issues.

@Tom,

Syncing still works, at least it does for me. Not sure about the synced indicators you mentioned since I never paid attention to those.

FWIW I spent a bunch of time looking for a solution to this problem and only found posts that required running homemade scripts and deleting files without knowing the repercussions to my system integrity. So, like many other frustrated users I decided it was best to get rid of DropBox altogether. Unfortunately, it turns out I have an application that depends on DropBox for it's syncing, so I'm stuck for now. It's a shame this isn't being addresed - it really is a great service otherwise.

It means all Finder integration is either on or off, including file overlays.

On:

Personally, I find the integration to be useful and not a hinderance in the slightest, but nobody can say Dropbox didn't listen to the few voices who don't want it.

@Bill J.,

I think the Finder integration option is only available on newer OS's Yosemite (maybe it happened in Mavericks) and above, due to changes Apple made in those OS's. Dropbox now uses some type of official method for injecting the sync icons.

In earlier versions of the OS's those official methods were not in place and it was not a simple tick mark to enable/disable those integrations.

So true, so true indeed... and I didn't mean to take away from the nice and easy solution you came upon. I was merely saying it may be too much for some. As long as it works for you thats all that matters.

@Tom

Thanks, that could be right as I'm still using Mavericks and Eric A. screenshot looks like Yosemite.

How does it go with this? Its very annoying if every application starts to add UI things to my personal operating system.

Laurence,

I have what appears to be the opposite problem - I've lost the 'Share link' context menu item and dearly want it back! This thread describes:

https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/204244436-Lost-Copy-link-item-in-context-menu-...

The first key you mention is present here (on my XP Pro PC) but the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node

has only the familiar default entry.

Do you think that might have anything to do with my context menu issue? Or any other ideas on how I might get it back. Tried a one day System Restore. Reluctant to go back further until I find out if this is an issue unique to me.
