Re: Closing an account without affecting other users

Closing an account without affecting other users

Closing an account. I had a paid for account on Dropbox, in order to give new owners access to those files. They have had them now for over a year.

I closed the account (cancelled payment) I keep getting messages saying Dropbox full. I am listed (still) as the Owner of the documents, all new users can edit etc. I want nothing to do with this. How do I remove myself from this.

I'd like to avoid the possibility of them losing the documents. This is annoying as I've ASKED them several times to take ownership but they have not, they merely said, oh it's ok, you can close it. Being a cautious type I am reluctant to "Suck it and see" also Lawyers...

I no longer need the paid account but the free one might come in handy. What can I do ?

If you transfer the ownership of the shared folder to another member, then they will technically own it and the files within. Afterwards, you can leave the folder without it affecting other people.

Hi @PhattyDrop, thanks for messaging the Community!

What type of account did you pay for?

Are these shared links to files, or files in a shared folder?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay, it was the 2TB account. I added a list of files And (so long ago) I think I gave one user ownership. (not100% certain)

There is a main folder with subs in it. If I look at a folder, I can, for example see that it has 7 members, all listed in Alpha order, all listed as Can Edit, EXCEPT me, I am the OWNER.

Checking further I can see this setting

Folder members
Members with edit access can add people.

I think this means these users can add people, but may not be owners.
I'd like to know, can I remove myself as owner somehow, and If I do, will I screw up access for the existing users?
