Storage data is glitching, saying I have way more than I actually have
Storage data is saying I have wayyy more than what I actually have. I have deleted a bunch of stuff and it's barely gone down.. I also removed myself from any shared folders/files.
I had under 5 gigs of stuff in there and now suddenly its saying i have 98 gigs and I keep getting offers to upgrade. No, i don't want to upgrade.. the 5 gigs works just fine for what I need Dropbox for.. I'm not sure why all of a sudden, my storage is way over usage limits. I'm about to delete everything and see what happens.. but I think i might just stop using dropbox bc I can't seem to get any help. And there's always Google Drive..

wow... thank you. I was literally about to give up on it. I didn't even know there was a separate "back up" page... I'm guessing when I accepted this random free trial from Dropbox about a month ago it automatically synced up to my 5TB external HD.. Deleted the backup folder and my storage is freed up.
Good to know. Thanks! - photobeth3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
This seems to be a common issue and I am having the same as well.
I upgraded to Plus 2 TB Plan. I have calculated that I want to store approx 800GB out of 2 TB but I am told I only have only approx 80GB left. How can that possibly be?
I have no backups on my backup page. I have 2 apps set to sync. One is empty and the other is very small. I got rid of shared files and they were very small text files anyway. I can add up the size of all the files on my computer that I want to store. I could be off somewhat but not by this much.
Where are all these hidden large files? Very frustrating. I like using Dropbox but I too am thinking its not worth the trouble.
I do think the help from everyone is nice, but so far I have not seen a solution to everyone asking the same question that I am asking.

Hey photobeth, I'm not really sure you're having the same issue as SharkWithLegs here.
When you say that it says you have only approx. 80 GB left, is it possible it's referring to hard drive space instead of Dropbox space?
If you can reply with a screenshot of the error message, I should be able to give you more info.

I was going to come on here to say that but am still changing my settings on all my devices to access online only. So my issue has been solved. Appreciate your help. -Beth - Hannah3 years ago

I don't seem to be able to figure out how much data I have in Dropbox.

Hey gdyckmd, you should be able to see your account's quota breakdown in your plan tab.
Let us know if you need anything else.

Thank you!
That was it.
It was backing up my external drive to Dropbox when I synced my phone.
Problem solved.

I am having the same issue. it was working fine on Friday and now says I have nesarly 3GB in shared files but I dont. However when I look in the shared files bit, I can see old folders back to 2015 that were deleted years ago. In shared files you cant delete anything and these folders were already deleted. How do I get rid of them?
