Can't open Files in Word

I'm not sure if this is normal - Is there a way to open files into Microsoft Word? I have Word downloaded but can't seem to have the option allow me to open files with Word. This is what it looks like right now:

Are you trying to preview files on the Dropbox site directly in Office Online?

Or are you instead looking for an option to open the file in Word on your machine?

Hey, sorry to just jump in here @angierinne!

To be able to open MS Office files in your Dropbox with the local applications on your computer, you also need to have the Dropbox application installed. 

Are you not seeing the option to open the files with the local apps, even with Dropbox installed?

I don't have dropbox installed. Is word not available to be opened with by just using the dropbox website?

Exactly, you'd need to install our application first. 

It's an application that syncs your Dropbox files to your computer, and makes them available locally.

Once they are available, you'll be able to open them with MS Word. 🙂
