Why are we losing photo management functionality?

Why are we losing photo management functionality?

As most people do, I use dropbox to sync all my photos between devices and it works great.

However I also want an easy way to sort/manage/arrange my photos.

Dropbox made some great steps with Carousel to start presenting and arranging my photos but then they pulled the plug on that.

As for Albums...for some reason I can only do that on Android!

And what are we left with? Nothing...just a simple timeline gallery with the ability to SEE my pictures and download them.

I want to be able to nicely sort and arrange my dropbox photos via albums and not to have to switch back to files view where I can no longer easily see my photos!

Is there any plan at dropbox to improve this?

Are there any free 3rd party apps to help me do this (online, not on my local computer)?

Should I just be moving everythign to Google Photos?

Thoughts?

Improve photo browsing

Hi,

I have been a user of Dropbox for several years. I think it is the most stable file synchronizing service at least compared to Drive and OneDrive.

I upload all my photos to Dropbox as pro user. Before there was an app called carousel, which was acctually quite good. to browse among pictures on a time scale. It was also possible to create any customized album, and share such a linkt o only selected pictures.

Now with that one shut down, the experience of browsing among my thousands of pictures has gotten really bad. I am actually obliged to go through all pictures like a normal windows explorer, and I cannot select photos to share with a unique link.

In addition, I was always lacking the smartness of even Carousel to plot pictures on a world map. For example, in Apples iPhone, which I am using, I can see where all photos were taken.

Right now I am searching, trying to find a third-party app to view photos stored in dropbox (some 15 000 pictures). I simply don't have the energy to browse through them, and I cannot search or filter on location.

Please improve the functionality of Dropbox photo browser. It would mean another competitive edge for Dropbox.

I do agree for this one. We need some focus on the photos experience.

Yes, Yes, Yes, a better photo experience please also introduce auto tagging so that we can search for photos by subject.

Lightroom CC does this, Google does this, dropbox doesn't.

Since I subscribe to both Adobe CC and Office 365 there is no compelling reason to continue to use Dropbox.  Jast sayin.

Agreed! For years I’ve been uploading my iPhone photos to Dropbox and could manage folders on carasuel. Now the only way I can make albums is on iCloud or google photos...which don’t have all my photos since I just started using.

Is Dropbox moving out of the photo management area? It’s been perfect for work files etc but pretty useless now for photo management.

Tips / suggestions? Should I move all my photos out of Dropbox and just use iCloud?

+1 to this one. Photo management on Dropbox is a joke. I really would expect a company like Dropbox to provide a clean way to do integrated photo management. Google Photos is beating you on all fronts and is by far the superior tool. Not all of us want to be in Google's arms though.

Please, please provide some decent photo management solution.

Clearly they are developing a complete paid photo solution otherwise why in the world would they remove features and torture the existing customer base like this ?    As soon as they offer this new paid photo service they will get thousands of signups - and the ability to DELETE A SINGLE PHOTO will be one of the prime inducements to sign up --

Drop box photos is just a giant pile of digital pictures. An actuall shoe box full of snap shots has more functionality.

Organizing, searching, grouping photos is so painful on Dropbox.

Scroll back in time and find a photo or photos that you are looking for, click on them, and see a  full screen view. Great. Click back you are brought to the most current photo. Possibly years away from the photos you needed.

Clicking "Back" should bring you to the point in the time line you were just viewing, not the present.

Select several photos to download (becasue you have to to create a usable grouping to share) you have to unclick every file you click or dowload them again and again. So fun tha tyou end up creating duplicate files just to share more cleanly.

Please add an unselect button or right click unselect.

Groups! Albums! Tags! Organize? Check check, check, check,... right click "create album" then that album should allow for downloading. ie create a folder or tag with the same name so photos can be saved, added or searched.
