Dropbox Paper
366 TopicsAre "Team Paper Docs" related to the new release of Dropbox Paper or were we hacked?
Hello! Long, long time Dropbox user, first time community poster. We noticed that a new "Team Paper Docs" folder appeared at the top level of our Dropbox team folder, in the middle of the night when nobody works. Looking at the forum, I'm guessing it's similar to the people who have seen "Migrated Paper Docs" folders appearing (like this post: https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101001017/unknown-folder-appearing-migrated-paper-docs/805075). None of our team uses Paper, but it's possible someone added a Paper file to a particular client folder in 2020/2021 but since deleted it. (the one folder inside "Team Paper Docs" DOES correlate to a project folder) In short, if this folder appearance is part of the long-standing Paper2020 update I've read about and this is normal, I would just like to confirm! While I'm not opposed to account password updates, I just want to ensure this isn't likely the result of a user's account being compromised or something. Thank you!Solved53Views0likes4CommentsEnd to end encryption on Dropbox Paper
Just read an article about Paper on Engadget. While the project almost sounds interesting, the big question is why are you wasting resources on this when there is zero demand for another word processing program that works on the web in the face of Word Online, Google Docs and Apples Pages, truly, just zero demand. What there is demand for is end to end encryption. Can we have that instead of features we'll never use and that you'll cancel 6-18 months after rolling it out? Dropbox is file storage. Do that well and integrate easy to use, rock solid encryption.3.8KViews1like6CommentsGive us the option to export all Dropbox Paper docs at once
Sadly, the last update to Dropbox Paper ended the "export all at once" feature. This means that all work done only ever exists on Dropbox's servers and there is no backup on my local computer. As long as I could export all at once, I could do weekly backups in case things go awry. This is not possible anymore in the new version. This means I will not be able to use the Paper feature anymore as I cannot accept unsecured work and exporting paper documents one by one for Backup is not practicable. Please bring "export all at once" back to Dropbox Paper.182Views8likes7CommentsI can't edit images on my Mac computer and they no longer preview in my Paper documents either.
Images in Dropbox on my Mac (OS Sonoma 14.7.5) have been giving me problems when I edit them in the Preview app. I get told I donât have permission to edit. Following odd hints I opened FULL DISK ACCESS for Dropbox. MISTAKE! Images stopped showing in all my PAPER docs. Both on my Mac and my iPhone 16. They all say âCouldnât Load Previewâ where each image was. I undid the FULL DISK ACCESS, tried restarts, but canât fix the problem! Dropbox and Paper seem otherwise OK.17Views0likes3CommentsI've lost my Dropbox Paper documents, how can I get them back?
Hello. A few weeks ago I noticed that I lost all my Dropbox Paper documents. I have been using this application for years and I really like it. The documents contain important information for my work and it is a big problem for me. After a few days, some of the documents started to appear again, but it is only a small part. I can't find an official statement from Dropbox anywhere. I tried the usual procedures and those I found on the forums, but nothing helped. A small part of the documents came back, but the vast majority of them are gone. Can anyone please advise me or direct me? This is an unpaid service, I have not noticed any changes to the rules that could explain anything. Thank you317Views0likes31CommentsIssues with exporting a folder from Dropbox Paper
Hi all. This task is killing Me. I have been battling this for a long time. I am trying to export a folder of Dropbox paper, containing approx. 150 .paper documents. I want to export them to .docx. I mark them all and select "Export" and choose .docx format. This is where the frustration comes... Sometimes it is just stuck on the rainbow wizard with text "Waiting to start". Nothing ever happens. Other times i actually starts and may reach 100/150, but never progresses from that. Are there any other otions to export these to .docx? Any 3rd party applications? Thank you in advance36Views0likes4CommentsThoughts on the new release of Dropbox Paper
This idea was already suggested many years ago and closed for inactivity. The old Dropbox Paper was easy to use, simple and was "what you see is what you get". The new Dropbox Paper introduces lots of new concepts that don't necessarily align I think with how many people have used Dropbox Paper in the past. It could just be me, but seems unlikely. Paper was a useful tool for me to organize my thoughts, write notes, journal ideas, etc... I don't usually like tools in general that try to push me to organize my life into someone else's perspective of how one should operate. I realize that other users may like that, I don't. I don't want "to-dos", "alerts", "notifications", "channels", etc... I like the "sharing" capability, and perhaps some very basic "collaboration", but to turn Dropbox Paper into a complete "Team" solution for ideating is way way beyond what I want to use it for, and I feel a little like the new version of Paper is intended to force users into a way of journaling and writing that maybe isn't what or how they are comfortable operating. Maybe these features could be useful, but on an as-needed basis, without taking away the simplicity that existed prior. It would be great if we could just have something that gives us the old Paper capabilities, with the advantage of treating a "Paper" document just like a dropbox document (which is what I thought the new implementation was all about and I was excited for). Here's the new Dropbox Paper UI. How is this intuitive? "Sections" on the left. "Create new doc" on the main page. Shouldn't I be navigating documents on the left, and each document have sections? Where am I right now? Where are all my paper documents? How do I get to them? What is a section? When I click on "My first section", nothing happens, it doesn't go anywhere. "Brainstorm: Add a topic". What's a topic? I don't brainstorm in Dropbox paper, why is that important? How would you then browse topics? Or is topics part of brainstorming? Is that a document or a "thing" thing in the new Paper application. Do the icons mean each thing on the left is a type of thing, or is it just a clever emoji you can prefix your titles with. What is "Starred" for? If I have 1000 paper documents, why am I starring them like that? Or should it just be maybe "Recent documents". Is "Starred" going to be a new virtual directory tree or a list of starred documents. I feel like it's a bit of a mess of ideas and concepts and terminology. Besides "Create new doc", nothing else makes sense to me. Maybe I am the wrong user. Maybe it was never intended to be used as a simple repository of notes, journals, etc... What's the grand old vision for Paper? Where is it heading and trying to take us as users? I really don't know how to suggest a better idea without a better understanding of what Dropbox Paper is meant to accomplish for users going forward. Is it for the enterprise going forward? Who is Dropbox Paper trying to compete with, because I thought it was pretty unique before in its simplicity. I noticed there's a slack integration? Is the product management group for the application taking their cues from businesses, or are this going to also still be for regular retail-ish consumers. Maybe that can be explained clearly. And then I can decide if it's for me or not, but as-is, I'm not sure how this is going to work for me.696Views4likes18CommentsMake Dropbox Paper screen-reader accessible
Weâve been keen users of Hackpad here in the UK Government for a few years now. We would like to migrate to Dropbox Paper, but itâs not currently accessible using a screen-reader. We have vision impaired users who rely on screen-readers and we have a responsibility to support them. Weâve looked at the code and the main issue appears to be that the application role is applied to the entire UI. This causes screen readers to stop intercepting keyboard commands and pass them back through to the browser instead. The upshot is that a screen reader is stripped of its usual shortcuts and navigational commands, making the app unusable unless scripting is used to provide the expected keyboard support. Collaboration tools like Paper can have a huge impact on the lives of people with access needs, but only if they're built to support the full range of technologies that people use.28KViews116likes35CommentsStop line-wrapping in code block in Dropbox Paper docs.
Dropbox Paper does line-wrapping in code blocks if the code is too long. Every other markdown (Github, Jupyter Notebook, Google Colab, etc.) does not wrap long lines in code because doing so makes code unreadable. Instead, they provide a scroll bar at the bottom. I wonder why Dropbox Paper does not offer this functionality, which seems gravely missing. Thanks,68Views0likes2Comments
