I have a number of teams that share info (song lyrics) through a song lyric package that expects a contiguous folder structure - eg Root Song folder on dropbox --- My material subfolder ---Band 1 material subfolder --- Band 2 material subfolder Band 1 and Band 2 have shared their dropbox folders with me but for the app to work I need to move(create shortcut to) the folders so they look as though they are located in my Root Song Folder The problem is a permissions one. I can manage (read/write) my own material and that of Band 1 but I only have read only access to Band 2. I do need to be up to date with all the material so having a copy of either Band is not good enough. It must be a synchronised up to date copy. Eg If Band 2 material is shared with me read only - I cannot move it into the root song folder. If it is shared with me read/write I can move it - BUT that also moves it in Band 2 source folder and they get very upset if I do that. We used to use Google drive for this - used to work OK. The latest updates to Google drive APIs have now made it impossible for the app to directly sync the neatly structured Root song folder. It seems that Dropbox doesnt quite have the concept of a pointer/link/shortcut. I have been told that some users have got a workaround for this but I have yet to find out what that is. ( I know about using a third party such as cloudhq to link current google data with dropbox - it will work but is very messy to setup. I need a more direct Dropbox solution. Can anyone help?Solved51Views0likes7CommentsHow can I hide members' email addresses from other members using the shared folder?
Hi it has been brought to my attention that when I share a file with a member staff they can click on all members before clicking into the file and they can view everyone's email addresses. I have never notice this before and my staff do not feel comfortable that everyone can see there private email addresses. Can I hide members information from others? Thanks Michelle57Views0likes9CommentsPaused sharing activity due to the daily limit for data sharing. What can I do?
I have tried to download a large file shared with me from a client a number of times and every time it is about to finish the folder gets corrupted and I get a suspension from Dropbox? Why is this happening? I am not the owner of the files I am trying to download, and I am pretty sure the owner of the files pays for the service, so why is this happening?212Views0likes24CommentsWith a Dropbox shared link, is there a way to change the content without changing the URL link?
Suppose I create a 'read only' shared link for a file. Anyone who has the URL link can access the contents of the file but cannot modify the contents of the file. Now suppose I give the URL link to 500 people. I want those people to be able to read not only the current content of the link but also all future content of that link. The content will change 3 times a week and must not change the URL link. It would be total chaos if these 500 people had to receive a new link 3 times each week in order to view the new contents of the file. to red27Views0likes1CommentGive us the option to export the email addresses of shared files' members to a .csv file.
I previously mentioned this to your support team on X, but I wanted to suggest it again having the ability to export the email addresses of users who can view or edit shared files as a .csv file or similar format would be extremely useful.43Views0likes3CommentsI'm asked to join a Team, when a client sends me an invitation to join his folder.
I am a tax preparer in Canada and am having an issue with sharing files with one of my clients. In the past I have created a folder and shared with my client an invitation to put information into a folder which I hold on my dropbox account. After their tax return is complete I put their confidential tax return and signature documents back onto the dropbox that only they and I have access. My newest client already had a dropbox account and he sent me an invite to view his information on his dropbox. When I click through to view the file, Dropbox tells me I have to join his company account. If I say yes to join, Dropbox tells me I have to change the username and password on my other already established dropbox account before I can access his. So I say no, since I have another staff member who also has access to various files. My question is - how can I get my new client's information without making a bunch of changes to my own access? Am I missing something?Solved78Views0likes6CommentsSharing of starred images or voting for favourite files.
Idea is simply to modify current account specific star system to multi user or creating a new voting button to allow trusted others to see your rating and add their own if they have edit privileges. This would be much faster for simple Go / No Go collaborative decisions for large numbers of files than current ‘add comment’ method. A stretch goal would be different colours of stars to show each user’s choice Example would be a creator shares a Dropbox folder of 500 proof photos with a client and asks them to select the ones that they wish to be edited by starring just their favourites. This MUST improve Dropbox’s collaboration function and as long as it is added to edit privileges, I can’t see any downsides I see that this has been suggested before and closed out, but possibly it is because many users don’t realise this part of the forum exists so don’t up vote?14Views1like2CommentsGoing back to the Basic plan. Will my shared folders be deleted?
Hello all, My question is essentially that I have two shared folders with other individuals. If I were to go back to Basic it says that my files might be deleted, but they aren't folders I own. I guess I want some clarification that I won't delete someone elses access to the files just my own. I don't own the folders. ThanksSolved62Views0likes2Comments
