Hey magero, welcome to the Dropbox community!Iâm sorry to hear about this. As similar as these cases may seem, itâs still best practice to start with troubleshooting some basics. Can you tell me:- what operating system youâre using?
- what version of our app you have installed (or are attempting to install)
- if itâs installed, you can hover your mouse pointer over the small Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar, and it will show in a small popup
- what exactly are you experiencing?
- did you complete the installation of our app?
- did you encounter any errors?
- is there any other behavior that is, or isnât occurring?
Any details surrounding this would be helpful. Thanks in advance!- wkyandy9 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Hi, Sanchez,
Please see my replies at below:
1. MacOS High Sierra
2. I tried to install the online version from www.dropbox.com and the offline version mentioned in www.dropbox.com FAQ.
3. It seems to me the installation process has been completed. But once completed, I tried to open the app by clicking the app. However, no error message or resposnes from my Macbook Air. It just stay there without any actions.
Hope the team may solve this issue soon. Thanks.

This is the error message:
"You canât use a name that begins with a dot â.â, because these names are reserved for the system. Please choose another name."
that's from the Macbook. Dropbox says I have a problem with file permissions for Users/myname/.dropbox/logs, so why would the application create a file with a dot?
