How to move my files out of Dropbox Vault?

I thought I would try Dropbox Vault, thinking that is where I could put files I don't want anyone to be able to access, so I put all of my hundreds of financial documents in my vault. I need to be able to constantly work with the documents, but I now see that is not what the vault is for. It's basically useless. All the vault does is lock them away like in a bank vault.
So, I now want to take ALL of my hundreds of folders and documents out of the vault, but I can't figure out how to do that. Downloading them just moves them temporarily (and it takes 5 HOURS for them to be accessible), but then they just go back into the vault. I WANT THEM PERMANENTLY OUT OF THE STUPID VAULT AND BACK ONTO MY COMPUTER'S DROPBOX FOLDER - NOT DROPBOX ONLINE!  I have searched online for comments made about this, but those solutions don't work for me. I can't just open two windows and drag the files over.

Please help!

Hey BCarroll, let's jump right into this!

If you'd like to move your files out of Vault, you should be able to do so as you would when moving files from any other location within your account.

You can try out these steps:

-Sign into dropbox.com and go into Vault
-Click the ellipsis button (...) next to the file/folder you'd like to move
    -Select Move
-Select the new location from the interface
    -Click Move again

After moving your content, you can then delete your Vault by following these steps.

Let me know of the results!

When I click on Move, it populates folders to move them into within my Vault.

When I click Move, it just gives me the same folders that I have in my Vault to move it to. I want to move the whole folder out of my Vault back to my laptop.

Hi BCarroll, could you try selecting and dragging the files into a folder visible in the navigation pane on the left hand side of the Dropbox site?

I tried that. As soon as I get out of the vault area, my mouse changes to a red minus sign

Thanks for the info, if you're not able to move files out of the Dropbox Vault, you'll need to download them manually one by one.

OMG! I wish I'd never done this stupid vault. I thought it was a place to put files so they were locked so no one could see them, but I could work on them in my regular dropbox, and it would sync to the vault.
There are THOUSANDS of files! What a mess!
