Is the admin of a team account able to access the contents of all folders?

Hi,

I am the bookkeeper of a business.  We would like to upgrade Dropbox to Standard and make it more secure.

We think the manager should be the admin and a user, and I should be a user.  At present, Dropbox and all its folders are accessible to anyone who can access the computer.  We would like that to remain the case for some folders, but other folders should be password protected.

I have shared one folder with our accountant, which I use to upload information which should remain confidential from the manager.  Is the admin able to access the contents of all folders, even if they are not shared with them?

Can this be done in Dropbox Standard and if so, how please?

Many thanks.

It cannot be done on any Dropbox plan because the folders are local to the machine and that has nothing to do with Dropbox.

You need to secure the physical machine itself to avoid other people getting access - either via user accounts and log ons etc. or securing it away physically.

In terms of who accesses what, use different accounts for different users and give them access to only what they need to access.

    Thanks Mark,

As Dropbox states that password protection is possible in some plans, I assumed that this could apply to folders.  I now understand it just applies to links.

Is it possible to operate totally different Dropbox accounts on the same computer?  Would one need different email addresses?

    Many thanks.

Hey mostlybaffled, thanks for posting here!

You can link a Dropbox personal account, and a Dropbox team account together, in order to be able to switch between the two.

However, if you're talking about two individual accounts, or two different teams then the best thing you could do would be to sign out of each account, and then sign into the one you want to have syncing to your device.

    I hope this clarifies!
