My colleague is running this dropbox build, 229.4.5197 on macOS 15.5 on an M1 Mac.

I am running 231.2.673 on macOS 15.5 on an M3 Mac.

My version has Dropbox in the Library/Cloud Storage.

Hers is at the root of her user folder, with option to move it in preferences.

I thought a few years ago, file provider took over and working from the user folder was no longer possible.

In mid 2025, with her DB auto update running - how is she still on a non-file provider version that functions?

What is going to happen in the near future? Can she work this way indefinately? She's unwilling and/or afraid to unlink, delete, reinstall and resync 3TB of files right now.

Hi Fluk3, thanks for your post.

It's possible that your colleague opted out of the File Provider update using these steps.

As far as we're aware, it should still be possible to opt out of File Provider for existing users.

However, I wouldn't be able to guarantee if this would change in the near future or not, so that File Provider would be compulsory for all Mac users. If this were to change, the non-File Provider users would receive notifications advising them of this change.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Is there a page that simply lists the latest stable build? I'd expect to be able to go to a certain page either here or in Dropbox Support, and bam, the version number of the current stable build(s) is right there. Ideally, that page would link to (right now) this one. All I've been able to find is the parent page of this one (101003016), which requires significant scrolling to find this information.

HI florismk, thanks for your message and suggestion.

Currently, there isn't a page that links you directly to the current latest stable build.

As you've noted, the forum itself shows all the various builds for the Dropbox desktop application, and the latest builds would be those with the highest number.

For stable builds, the number would be XXX.4.XXXX, and for beta builds it would be XXX.3.XXXX.

Let me know if you need any more info!
