I am on the latest iOS and Dropbox for my iPhone 13. Dropbox 324.2 and iOS 16.4.1 I noticed that it was going forth between 5 and 4 photos left. There is plenty of room in dropbox. Nothing has been uploaded. I followed the instructions mentioned here https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Storage-Space/Photo-backup-on-iPhone-isn-t-working/td-p/515471 for clearing the cache and rebooting. Still have the same issue and it won't give it up. Problem also exists backing up via cellular. Problem also persists after full delete and reinstallation of Dropbox on iPhone.Solved27KViews10likes42CommentsBest practices for using symlinks (symbolic links)
Hi there, I use dropbox on linux with symlinks, but am not sure which is the best/preferred way to use them. Is there a best practice for using this type of configuration? Currently I use symlinks in my home directory that point to the actual folders in my Dropbox folder, but I have heard of doing the inverse: placing symlinks in the dropbox folder pointing out into the home directory. Are there pros and cons to symlinking from the Dropbox folder to the home directory vs. placing a symlink in the home folder linking to inside the Dropbox folder? What happens during a catastrophic failure triggering a need for data restoration, which method is preferred? Is there a way to dynamically create links for new entries (like .* folders)? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to using soft vs. hard linking? Any links/posts with regards to the above would be most appreciated. I acknowledge that Dropbox does not fully support symbolic links, but find them so useful I am committed to using them. Thanks in advance!Solved25KViews1like32CommentsThis file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action
I'm totally shocked that this error is not on forum. May be its too new or people just reinstalle dropbox or something. We have dropbox bussines at company, I have like 120 computers arround the word. We use office 365 with local installed apps (word, excel, etc.) A new bundle of computer arrived so I installing all them from scratch. I install fresh offce, and fresh dropbox. everything fine. dropbox shows the folders, etc BUT when I open any file INSIDE dropbox filder, for example a Word file, y get "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action" which is not a windows error, but dropbox generated. If I copy the file outside dropbox directory its open perfectly without any problem. Some times I put repair on office install and that fix it, some times need to reinstall dropbox. The crazy thing is that happen on FRESH install on any computer, just installing office and then dropbox. I tried everything. first instlling dropbox, then office, etc etc. I'm using latests installers from both. Any idea how can fix this and not need to reinstal an repair, on a fresh install???Solved15KViews1like8CommentsSign-in Failed. Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. Please try again later. [iOS 11, iPad Air]
Setting up a clean install of iOS 11.03 on an iPad Air. I'm trying to sign-in to Dropbox, with two-factor authentication. I enter my username and password Get the SMS with the 6 digit code. Enter Get the SMS with the 6 digit code. Enter Enter the code, and get the error message: "Sign-in Failed. Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. Please try again later." I get an e-mail from Dropbox confirming a new login from an iPad, and wanting me to confirm it is me. I have tried 8 times, rebooted iPad, uninstalled/reinstalled Dropbox. No luck. It's really annoying since I need Dropbox to get into my 1Password account, to set up a bunch of other accounts.Solved15KViews0likes4CommentsWhat is .dropbox.device?
Hello! I found a hidden file called .dropbox.device on a disk partition of one of my internal hard drives. Can someone please demystify this file for me? I would like to know exactly what this is and what it's used for. Given all previous user accounts of this file, I know it is created by Dropbox. I will post some reference links below. I can see a .dropbox.device file in one of my shar... - Dropbox Community Solved: dropbox.device getting installed on my USB - Dropbox Community It is suggested that this type of file is generated by Dropbox when inserting a USB flash drive into a computer with Dropbox installed on it, and the solution is to disable camera uploads so that the Dropbox app on a mobile device cannot upload pictures to Dropbox. I can't make much sense of this (these?) argument(s). For one, I have never used this internal hard drive in an external context (USB hard drive enclosure), and I don't allow the Dropbox app on my mobile device to upload the photos I take. (I have even stopped using Dropbox altogether on my mobile devices some time ago, when the number of devices that are allowed to sync on the Free plan was crimped to three devices or so.) Regardless of how someone uses Dropbox, or the number and type of devices they use Dropbox on, these hidden files should have an explanation of what they are and what they are used for. It needs to be documented somewhere instead of playing the guessing game like we do. You don't just drop a bunch of cryptic binary files on someone's desktop and pretend like it's an honest mistake made by your app. I don't need to tell you that this is done so by design. So how about it, what are they?...Solved15KViews2likes7CommentsDropbox folder in File Explorer in Windows 11 is painfully slow
I recently 'upgraded' to Windows 11 and the new File Explorer is now painfully slow when navigating the Dropbox folder. Simply navigating the hierarchy takes seconds and the Windows busy ring appears twice for each click. I have tried: - reinstalling Dropbox (currently 139.3.4798) - enabling Smart Sync (this will likely save me disk space but seems not to affect performance) - uninstalling any other software that interacts with the Windows context menu (WinZip etc) - restoring the Windows 10 File Explorer (which changed the GUI) but not the speed - running Windows File explorer full screen (F11) a common recommendation that does not improve performance I am running Win 11 Pro on a decent enough 8th gen Core i7 with 16GB RAM that coped just fine under Windows 10, I have 346443 files on my DB. the issue is limited to the Dropbox folder which is why I'm here and not on the MS forum. Any help gratefully received!14KViews0likes57Comments
