2020: "Stop renaming my files! (on auto phone upload)" by BoxyBeat https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-installs-integrations/Stop-renaming-my-files-on-auto-phone-upload/td-p/391599 Dropbox response was: "interesting indeed". Then they are like; let us learn what you have uncovered that we still don't know. Like, let's go out there and jump through the hoops together to confirm if the files are named based on when the files are created (recording starts) or when they are last modified (recording stops). What difference does it make? Just stop renaming people's files!? They go on to explain that this is the expected behavior... duh! They never explain why this is, even though the author specifically requested an explanation from Dropbox as to "why" this is. They said they moved the question to the "Share an idea" section. They closed the question for further comments so that anyone who feels the same way about this Dropbox misbehavior can start their own discussion about it, like I'm doing right now, and we can all pretend that no one really wants this "feature", because the discussion activity is low and no one is voting. They even go as far as closing supposedly "shared ideas" for lack of support by other members of the community of users, before it even has a chance to reach the right team at Dropbox, Inc. With so many filters along the way, I would be surprised if any Dropbox features is ever a direct result of user input. Dropbox has its own fixed ideas of how to do things, and that's how it's going to stay. Like it and use it, or don't like it and move on to using something else. This is the example of a shared idea that has been closed due to lack of support. 2021: "Stop renaming files" by Pete3000 https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/Stop-renaming-files/idi-p/510186 Allow such ideas to stay open for a good while and see what happens. You will never get enough votes if you keep closing ideas and keep closing discussions. You will always blame it on lack of interest by other users, and users will keep creating new topics for the same old discussions, and keep sharing the same old ideas without it ever being forwarded to the right team at Dropbox, Inc. It's so obvious right now that you are genuinely not interested in what we users have to say or what we think of your apps and services. Not when you keep shutting us off, closing our topics of discussion and keep closing our "shared" ideas before they can gather enough votes and traction, and before they ever reach the right team. You're doing this on purpose. And that's OK. It's your product and your service. I just wanted to call you out and let you know that I can see through your charade and I don't agree with your practices. So let us have it... why are you changing the names of our files? And more importantly, why are you not allowing us to decide for ourselves if we want your app to change the name of our files or not? There is a way to set up naming conventions with Dropbox, but it does not apply to the mobile app and camera uploads. It applies only to the web and the desktop app (the option links back to the web for setting it up, there is no interface for it within the desktop app itself). "How to use naming conventions in Dropbox" https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/sort-preview/naming-conventions Despite this advanced and elaborate way to exactly specify how to name and organize files in Dropbox (as long as you're not using the mobile app), and despite having several preset naming rules to choose from, having no rule at all is not a selectable rule or option. I am very disappointed with Dropbox right now. It feels like with each passing year I have less and less reason to use Dropbox. You have already reduced the number of devices allowed to sync from 5 to 3 (if I remember correctly) on the free plan. I wouldn't actually mind getting a premium plan if you did things a little differently and you got rid of the excess bulk you have invented in recent years like Paper, Transfer, Vault, Spaces, and what not, the list keeps growing. Dropbox has moved well beyond what used to be its core business idea, and it's far from working ideally, and I don't want to be paying for the things I don't intend to use.Solved15KViews13likes21CommentsImport and edit markdown file

Hi all I just had my paper docs migrated into my Dropbox account. However, I still have access to www.dropbox.com/paper. There is a new Paper UI that initially shows only a couple of files. For some reason, this new UI has a completely different conceptual model or way of working. And many of the basic conventions we had in the previous Paper UI have been removed or replaced by strange alternatives. For instance, a search on this empty space will actually return the results of your migrated Paper docs. They can be filtered, but incredibly, they cannot be sorted. On the left side, there is a sidebar that is almost empty. Apparently, it's up to the user to create a navigation structure there and populate it with documents. I challenge you to find who to do it, but drag and drop doesn't work. I was not offered any type of onboarding or tutorial to transition to this new UI. So, I guess I'll have to discover my way through it little by little. But honestly, I don't know if this new UI will also be removed soon. Can anybody explain what happened with Paper? Thanks271Views4likes5CommentsThoughts on the new release of Dropbox Paper
This idea was already suggested many years ago and closed for inactivity. The old Dropbox Paper was easy to use, simple and was "what you see is what you get". The new Dropbox Paper introduces lots of new concepts that don't necessarily align I think with how many people have used Dropbox Paper in the past. It could just be me, but seems unlikely. Paper was a useful tool for me to organize my thoughts, write notes, journal ideas, etc... I don't usually like tools in general that try to push me to organize my life into someone else's perspective of how one should operate. I realize that other users may like that, I don't. I don't want "to-dos", "alerts", "notifications", "channels", etc... I like the "sharing" capability, and perhaps some very basic "collaboration", but to turn Dropbox Paper into a complete "Team" solution for ideating is way way beyond what I want to use it for, and I feel a little like the new version of Paper is intended to force users into a way of journaling and writing that maybe isn't what or how they are comfortable operating. Maybe these features could be useful, but on an as-needed basis, without taking away the simplicity that existed prior. It would be great if we could just have something that gives us the old Paper capabilities, with the advantage of treating a "Paper" document just like a dropbox document (which is what I thought the new implementation was all about and I was excited for). Here's the new Dropbox Paper UI. How is this intuitive? "Sections" on the left. "Create new doc" on the main page. Shouldn't I be navigating documents on the left, and each document have sections? Where am I right now? Where are all my paper documents? How do I get to them? What is a section? When I click on "My first section", nothing happens, it doesn't go anywhere. "Brainstorm: Add a topic". What's a topic? I don't brainstorm in Dropbox paper, why is that important? How would you then browse topics? Or is topics part of brainstorming? Is that a document or a "thing" thing in the new Paper application. Do the icons mean each thing on the left is a type of thing, or is it just a clever emoji you can prefix your titles with. What is "Starred" for? If I have 1000 paper documents, why am I starring them like that? Or should it just be maybe "Recent documents". Is "Starred" going to be a new virtual directory tree or a list of starred documents. I feel like it's a bit of a mess of ideas and concepts and terminology. Besides "Create new doc", nothing else makes sense to me. Maybe I am the wrong user. Maybe it was never intended to be used as a simple repository of notes, journals, etc... What's the grand old vision for Paper? Where is it heading and trying to take us as users? I really don't know how to suggest a better idea without a better understanding of what Dropbox Paper is meant to accomplish for users going forward. Is it for the enterprise going forward? Who is Dropbox Paper trying to compete with, because I thought it was pretty unique before in its simplicity. I noticed there's a slack integration? Is the product management group for the application taking their cues from businesses, or are this going to also still be for regular retail-ish consumers. Maybe that can be explained clearly. And then I can decide if it's for me or not, but as-is, I'm not sure how this is going to work for me.1.7KViews4likes20Comments403 error message - not giving me access to my own files (DropBox Paper)
Hi, I use DropBox Paper for everything, and it's pretty important to me. (Having made the change from GDocs a while ago). I just tried to access my stuff (please know that I only have a free account, but have not reached the 2Gig limit, because almost everything I do is just text: translation, writing essays, taking notes etc.) and it threw up a '403 message' time and time again, saying 'it seems [that] you don't belong here'. So, I logged out, tried logging back in again (it wouldn't let me). So, I reset that password, which seemed to work, but not really, because now I can't open any of my text documents. This is a serious issue (I rely on translation as my income stream and career), and I would please like your help to resolve it). Yours hopefully, Max.Solved2.6KViews3likes7CommentsDoes anybody know how to scale an image inside a Dropbox Paper TABLE?
I placed a big image inside a table on Paper but can't find a way to scale it down. The image is large and I would like it to be way smaller. If I reduce the column size the image gets cropped. Any suggestions?Solved13KViews3likes8CommentsDropbox Paper images aren't loaded on the web
Device Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2016 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version/Browser Version Chrome: Version 140.0.7339.185 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) Edge: Version 140.0.3485.94 (Offizielles Build) (64-Bit) Description Many images (~30%) in my dropbox paper document are not loading anymore. It concernc various dropbox paper files. Even if I click on the link, they do not open anymore. I am sure all of these pictures were uploaded correctly! They are usually screenshots that I have copy + paced into the document. This is very frustrating and a very big issue. I would have thought dropbox paper is more reliable! ScreenshotsSolved406Views2likes26CommentsNumerous technical issues with Paper App
Far too many issues to list here. Apart from the chaotic disaster of non-migrated and missing files, last year images disappeared in my Paper App for several months, despite the "specialist engineering team looking into it" (what a joke). The lastest fiasco is that links do not work across all of my Paper files in the App (the desktop version is fine). Could someone (serious) at Dropbox please inform your incredibly tolerant, long-suffering subscribers what on earth is going on? If the App is to be discontinued, which would appear to be the case judging by the fact that it has been abandoned (no updates since Version 262.2 over two years ago) could someone at least have the courtesy to let us know so we can stop paying for a ditched product and look for alternatives? This message is not intended to be disrespectful, quite simply like many of your users I have now completely run out of patience with this intolerable situation.249Views2likes7Comments
