Hi! I don't have too much space on my PC to download all my files via Dropbox Desktop App. My goal is the backup all my files saved to Dropbox to an external drive. After I copy the downloaded files to an external drive, how can I then delete them from my PC to free up more space without it syncing and deleting the files from Dropbox.com?49Views0likes5CommentsWant some files in Dropbox left only on my laptop, not synced
Without my knowledge, Dropbox synced all of my personal files to its system and now I'm over limit. I do not want to lose my files so how do I get my stuff back to my computer and off dropbox so they don't get destroyed?22Views0likes2CommentsHow can I move a shared folder I don't own out of my root directory?
I have clicked on a link to see a shared folder for which I have editing privilege. The folder is in my dropbox in the root directory, but it is no use to me there, I need it in another place in the directory structure. I cannot see how to move it, I can move the directories inside the main folder, but then it will disappear form the other peoples dropbox. I do not mind having two copies of it all as I have the space, but need to find a way to either move the main directory or the sub directory's to a different location within my dropbox without causing an issue to the person who shared with me and keep two way link enabled. I am doing this online in the web application, I do not use the desktop application, Thank you69Views0likes4CommentsFolder "files on my computer" re-occurring
Hi, I hope this is the right category, I'm having a problem with a folder. Dropbox creates automatically the folder "files on my computer" and after I delete it the folder re-appare in an infinite loop. Anyone had the same issue and found a solution to not show this folder on my desktop?Solved418Views0likes2CommentsBest way to collect client uploads in one Dropbox folder and sort by client and date
Iâm looking for some guidance on the best way to set up a streamlined upload flow for multiple clients. Goal Iâd like to have a single upload point (for example, one shared link or form) that allows multiple clients to upload files without logging in. Ideally, when they upload: They provide their email address or name Dropbox automatically routes those files into a folder structure like: Client Name (or email) â Submission date â Uploaded files So, over time Iâd end up with something like /Client A/email@clienta.com/2025-11-14/âŠfiles /Client B/email@clientb.com/2025-11-20/âŠfiles etc. Questions Is there a native Dropbox feature (e.g. File Requests or similar) that can: accept uploads from multiple people via one URL, and also capture who uploaded what in a way that could be used to organise files per client? If not fully possible natively, whatâs the best-practice approach people have used? Multiple File Requests? Dropbox + a form tool (Typeform, Jotform, etc.) + Zapier/Make to create folders and move files based on email address? Any recommended automations / templates that already do this? Iâm comfortable using third-party automation tools if needed, but Iâd love to understand whatâs realistically achievable within Dropbox first, and what the most robust setup would be.85Views0likes3CommentsA visual tree map for smarter storage management of a Dropbox folder structure
We often need to know what our Dropbox space is being used by. What if we could see it, visually and intuitively? Iâm proposing a new Dropbox feature inspired by tools like SpaceMonger: a visual storage map that shows your entire Dropbox as a treemap of nested rectangles, each one sized in proportion to the space it consumes. Folders would be represented as boxes within boxes, giving you an immediate sense of which areas are taking up the most room. This birdâs-eye view would make it dramatically easier to identify storage hogs, clean up unneeded files, and make informed decisions about organizing or upgrading your storage. Integrated directly into the Dropbox web interface, it would be a natural, powerful addition for users who care about managing space efficiently, whether you're close to your storage limit or just trying to be informed and strategic on how you use it. Of course, the particulars of the UI/UX could be debated by your experts, but the gist is that an intuitive visual representation of our subscriptions' allocated space and how it is being used would be a tremendous addition to the platform. Device (Lenovo Ideapad 1) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 11) Question or Issue I have a pending signature document in dropbox sign but I have deleted it. I want it to be recovered however, I can't see any files in the "deleted for everyone" section in dropbox sign. I also checked the "deleted files" in dropbox and there's no file in it. Please help me to recover this document in the dropbox sign.276Views0likes10CommentsPersistent Indicator for Files with Unresolved Comments
Currently, Dropbox shows a comment notification only when a comment is new or unread. Once the comment is read, the indicator disappears even if the comment is not resolved. This makes it hard to see which files still require attention. I would like Dropbox to introduce a persistent visual indicator (badge, icon, number, highlight, or any small marker) that appears whenever a file has unresolved comments, regardless of whether they have been read already. Why this matters: Teams use comments for review and approvals. After reading a comment, there is no quick way to see that the file still needs action. Users must open each file and check the comments panel to find unresolved comments. This leads to missed feedback and slower collaboration. How it could work: Show a small badge next to the file name in the file list when unresolved comments exist. In the file preview, show a subtle âunresolved commentsâ indicator even if all comments are read. User impact: This would help teams working with shared documents by making outstanding work visible at a glance, reducing mistakes and speeding up reviews.69Views1like1CommentDropbox keeps sorting my files based on when I last accessed them, instead of alphabetically.
Question or Issue In the past year or so Dropbox changed the way my files are listed so instead of opening and searching for files in alphabetical order as I set them up, they are now listed under the month last opened. I did not request this and cannot search this way. How can I stop this? I should add that sometimes my files do appear in normal alphabetical order and other times they appear in this crazy month order. I canât figure out why it goes one way or the other.Solved80Views0likes6Comments
