I find it highly annoying, when duplicating or moves multiple files from one folder to another, when I mistakenly or unknowingly move a file that already an exists in the destination folder, and I get a message saying this to be the case and the other files dont get moved. I often move fifteen to twenty files at a time. As I have over three thousand book files, I often don't keep track of what already exists in a folder. Now when uploading multiple files, if a file already exists in the destination folder, one is given the option to overwrite the file or just upload the other files not in the folder. Please make it the same for when one is duplicating or moving multiple files to folders within Dropbox, you have no idea how annoying this is as I have to go through the files in the destination folder, make a note of the file already exsisting and then go back and reselect the files that I want to duplicate or move. Please change this!!! Thank you.16Views0likes0CommentsOption to select a specific directory in the team member folder upon joining a shared content.
Whenever we join a shared folder it syncs into the parent directory. If we can sync all such folders into a specific directory that would be wonderful and would keep the parent directory clear enough. It becomes clumsy when everything syncs into the parent directory. Currently, we need to join it and then move it to the desired folder.154Views0likes8CommentsShow long-running tasks management section in Dropbox web
In Dropbox web, when moving many files or organising many files, it would be very helpful to have a section dedicated for tracking these long-running, async operations which is persistent. This is not the same as the toast progress bar. That one gets destroyed if you leave the tab, navigate to the account settings page or just come back after a while. I mean a persistent section tracking the progress of long-running operations and allowing some controls such as "abort" or track more prominently. If failures occur, they should also appear in this section, differently from the progress toast we have today which can simply be gone if you come back to the tab after a while, leaving you confused as to why some photos still weren't moved. Secondly, it's very common that moving 1000+ photos in Dropbox fails silently. We have to retry the long-running operations over and over and over until all photos are really moved. Ideally this would be better tracked in the section mentioned above with a simple way to retry, if not automatic.41Views0likes2CommentsTwo Dropbox folders on two different disks for one account
My dedicated 2 Tb disk with the Dropbox folder is running full. I have other disks in the PC of the same size, so I would like to have two dropbox folders, one on each disk, connected to the same dropbox account, instead of having to buy a bigger disk for my PC. That would be nice.47Views2likes2CommentsGive us an option to search for duplicate files.
I Google searched "how does a software program locate duplicate files on a computer". These are the results plus a nice little YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEgAwXGVds4. Duplicate file finders work by comparing files based on their content (using checksums or hash functions) and/or metadata (like file name, size, modification date). By analyzing these attributes, the software can identify files that are identical or very similar, even if they have different names. Here's a more detailed breakdown: 1. Hashing/Checksums: The most reliable method for identifying duplicates involves calculating a unique "fingerprint" for each file's content, often using hash functions like MD5 or SHA256. If two files have the same hash value, it strongly suggests they are identical. This method is effective even if the files have different names or slightly different metadata. 2. Metadata Comparison: Some duplicate finders compare file names, sizes, and modification dates to identify potential duplicates. This method is faster but less reliable, as files with the same name and size might still have different content. For example, two files named "report.docx" could have different content even with the same size and date. 3. Scanning and Filtering: Duplicate file finders scan the specified folders or drives, analyzing each file. They then use the chosen method (hashing or metadata comparison) to identify duplicates. Many tools offer filtering options, allowing users to narrow down the search by file type, size, or other criteria. 4. User Interface and Management: Once the scan is complete, the software presents a list of duplicate files. Users can review the list and choose which duplicates to remove, move, or rename. Some tools offer automatic selection features, allowing users to quickly remove duplicates based on predefined criteria. In essence, duplicate file finders act as specialized search tools that go beyond basic file name or size comparisons to identify true duplicates based on their content or other defining characteristics.94Views1like2CommentsCan we search by file name on the Dropbox website, and not by content?
I had to remove Dropbox from my PC as I ran out of space. I am now stuck only using it online via a browser. I have yet to find a way to search by file name and not content - and I've found nothing recent online that tells me how to do it. I've even just read the information about Dash and it doesn't seem to do it either. Can this system seriously not handle such a fundamental feature yet?64Views0likes2CommentsEnhanced filter / search using the Photos tab directly
I really like the photos tab functionality that allows you to select which type of items and show grouped by year /month / day and resize the images with the - + (this layout below) and being able to move to a specific year by clicking on the menu on the right of the screen but I would really like to be able to filter the photos to show a selection of them using the tags I have allocated to the individual files on this photos tab. The only way that I have found to filter the images is to use the search bar to look for a tag - it does show the correct photos but on the "All Files" tab and I lose the functionality to use the years/months/days viewing and the sizing - + and in particular I can't then select a year because the menu on the right disappears. This would be useful if searching a tag that would return a large number of photos ie. #holiday43Views0likes1CommentAllow us to hide certain folders from the Photos tab.
------------------------ It would be very helpful to have the option to select which directories to include or exclude in the "Photos" section. We often store images or screenshots in specific folders, and these end up mixed in with our main photos, creating visual clutter. Being able to limit the display to only the directories that actually contain photos would help maintain a more organized and focused experience. Hello Dropbox team 👋 I would really really love to be able to see tags appear besides the name of the files in any view, or folder, and on the mobile app, web version, and desktop app. Just a nice coloured tag left to the star icon would be wonderful. Yes, I know at Dropbox you are not a big fan of small, seemingly unnecessary cutomizations that don't serve an immediate and measurable purpose, but making customers happy is very important (here by improving UI and UX significantly and seemlessly for a small amount of time and effort). I'm sure the intern could figure it out in three days. Also if you are hyper motivated you can add a filter for tags to sort files (but NOT necessary, making them visible and coloured is already a great improvement). Here is what I imagine when I say tags: For colours you can do just like in Notion, where you can choose from pre-determined colours:117Views3likes3Comments
