1126 TopicsHow do I replicate a folder structure (e.g. copy it to create a 2nd copy) within Dropbox?
Hi - I have folder structure with around 200GB of files in it. It synchs with my local laptop. I would like to create a replica of this folder structure on Dropbox that is not connected to my local machine. I don't have enough storage on my local machine to replicate it, and then remove the duplicate files afterward. So i simply want to create a second copy of the files that lives only in the cloud. That way, if and when i would ultimately delete the original folder structure, which due to synching would delete the original cloud copy, i will still have the second copy of files in the cloud. I'm already familiar with selective synch and the ability to store the files only on one side of the synch, that's not my issue. Assume there is a valid reason i need a second copy of the files. Any idea how to accomplish this within Dropbox cloud? Thanks much!!Solved7.9KViews0likes4CommentsFiles disappeared from my Dropbox folder & it seems that more than 100K files were deleted.
The problem started yesterday. I noticed some files were missing from local synced files as well as the web interface. This morning more files disappeared. I checked the Deleted Files folder. It appears that close to 100,000 files were deleted at the same time yesterday afternoon, which I absolutely did not do. I have a Basic account with limited support. Can someone enlighten me on how to solve this problem? Thank you in advance! p.s. I am an IT professional and have been using Dropbox for many years without issues. I am confident it is not a new user issue.Solved7.7KViews0likes6CommentsI need to permanently delete my files, but I get message "x items couldn’t be permanently deleted".
When I wanted to permanently delete a file or folder (which I may have shared with others or not). I used to be able to delete it in Finder and then would get asked by Dropbox: Delete "untitled folder" from everyone's account and all devices? I then confirm with "Delete for everyone" and proceed to empty the trash on my Mac. Now I log on to my Dropbox account, go to "Deleted files" and select the ones I want to permanently delete. Then confirm this and they were gone, space would be freed up. Well, gone are those glory days of simplicity, because: NOW I get told by Dropbox: "File XYZ will be gone forever for everyone, including for anyone still using the folder. Permanently deleting this folder won’t free up space." I confirm by selecting "Permanently delete" NOW I get the message: "x items couldn’t be permanently deleted" Dropbox tells me – uselessly: "What you can do": "Ask the owner to help permanently delete this" I AM the #!*¥ owner, aren't I? Plus, didn't clicking "Delete for everyone" on the desktop version make it clear that ALL those files have to go? Shurely this is a recent bug. It wasn't such a hassle before to get rid of old files. Or am I missing something? GrrrrrSolved18KViews3likes10CommentsI keep seeing a pop-up message online that keeps appearing each time. Can I stop it?
For the past few days, when I log in to the web version of Dropbox.com, I get a pop-up message that says, "View files you have deleted - You can also easily restore or permanently delete them here." Even if I click the OK button, the message keeps appearing every time I log in. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Thanks!19Views0likes1Comment"The operation can’t be completed" error when trying to delete a folder on macOS
I am on Mac OS Monterey running dropbox basic. When I try to delete a folder I get the error message 'The operation can’t be completed because “Folder name” needs to be downloaded.' Also my sync icons are not showing at all. If I add or delete files they the changes sync. If I create a folder it also syncs - but I cannot delete it from Finder. I can delete it online and the change sync to Finder. I have re-installed and also follow the advanced re-install https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall I have followed the dropbox not syncing https://help.dropbox.com/sync/files-not-syncing and missing icons https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/View-download-and-export/Sync-icons-missing-in-the-Dropbox-folder-in-Finder/td-p/596014/page/2 I've been going round in circles with all the above - re-starting lots too. Any ideas what is going on? ThanksSolved13KViews0likes15CommentsHow do I download my Dropbox files and then safely delete them from my account?
I want to move all my photos/files from dropbox to an external hard drive, remove them from my dropbox without delete any photos by mistake or anything. This is to organize my photos and files properly, so I can use my dropbox as a temporarily back up for my more recent photos which is why I wanted to use dropbox as in the first place! There are several photos on my dropbox that doesn't show in my dropbox-app for my pc but I have a lot of old pictures there and I don't want to delete them, only remove them from dropbox and keep them on my computer. I have approximately 231 recent photos(on my phone) that I can't save on my dropbox because I don't have enough space. But I don't want to upgrade since I don't really need that much space. I just want to transfer them to an external hard drive via my computer. I'm not good in English, but I hope someone understand what I want to do and can help me!Solved110KViews15likes69Comments
