946 TopicsHow can I recover my files from Dropbox Backup?
I backed up a large number of files (close to a terabyte) to Dropbox Backups. Now I'd like to download them, but I'm running into problems. The only way seems to be through the web platform, but this limits downloads both by filesize and by total number of files, so that large folders must be downloaded in dozens or hundreds of small pieces. Even this method sometimes proves impossible, because the web platform lags heavily in folders with many files, such that attempting to download more than a few dozen at a time causes it to lag and eventually freeze. I tried using the API but it seems that it can't be used to access Backups, only the normal Dropbox sync. I spoke with the support chat and the representative told me that as far as he knows, there is no way to recover my files. I'm a paying subscriber so I hope this isn't true. Is there some other way for me to get my files back, or are they lost?Solved86Views0likes4CommentsI lost the files in my Family group folder, after upgrading to a Dropbox team plan.
I went ahead and upgraded my subscription from a Family group to a business multi user subscription and now it has removed the Family group folder with all my files before I could transfer to my new upgraded membership folder. This is a pretty silly automation in the system, how can I transfer to my new folder if they aren't there?31Views0likes2CommentsI'm missing some old folders but cannot see them anywhere to restore them
I am missing some older subfolders from a shared folder. None of us deleted it. I do not see it under activity nor do they pop up when I do a search. I am a basic subscriber; will DropBox help me with this? I am logged in online. My app and online shows the same data so it not a syncing issue. Device Problem happens in all computers and the web version Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11, Artix Linux Dropbox App Version/Browser Version 241.4.4795/Chrome 144, Chromium 144 Question or Issue I have a huge folder with multiple other folders inside, with names from A to Z. Currently I cannot see any of them that start with a letter after G, with the exception of one that starts with P. Whenever try using the rewind feature in the webapp to get them back, I get an error. How can I fix this? I also don't know when all these folders were removed... Hello Dropbox team, I’m using Dropbox Basic and experienced a critical Dropbox desktop client issue on macOS Sequoia. While troubleshooting a File Provider / desktop app bug, my account unintentionally deleted over 22,000 files within minutes. This was NOT intentional. The Event History shows multiple large deletion events within a short time window. I immediately stopped all syncing and made no further changes. I urgently need a server-side rollback to restore my Dropbox account to the state before this deletion occurred. Thank you very much for your help.49Views0likes3CommentsFiles listed on my iPad have disappeared from Dropbox and aren't in deleted files
Hi, I noticed today that a bunch of files that were in my dropbox on my several devices are suddenly missing, and they are not in my deleted items. Searching through the files shows that they were not moved into a subfolder on dropbox.com What could have happened to these? I would not have deleted them, and they are not shared with anyone else - just across my devices. I just now see the note that free accounts can only have 3 devices, but there are several more than that in my account - but I got no notification that some devices would stop syncing. I see the list of the missing files on my iPad but can't access the files because they are not stored on the ipad, and they have disappeared from the desktop that I had them synced on. Could this be because I tried to share more than my dropbox limit? Usually I get a sync error in that case, but I have no sync errors. Nothing in the activity indicates where these files could have gone either. The iPad currently has the wifi turned off - is there any chance the files could be recovered if I turn the sync on there and off somewhere else? I'm so confused what I did wrong; I've been using dropbox for years without issues!2.1KViews0likes14CommentsI deleted the Dropbox folder off my laptop, and now loads of files are gone
I was unaware that my laptop was set up to file sync with Dropbox, which had automatically set itself up to house my Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders. I didn't actively use Dropbox, and didn't have the app download on my laptop, so when I deleted a folder on my laptop that was called Dropbox and said "No data", I thought that would be fine. Since, I've lost access to my Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders, and none of the data that was within these folders can be found in the Dropbox trash when I log in online. Completely baffled, and pretty heartbroken to have lost years worth of music that I'd made. I back up my laptop, but since it was all stored in a file sync, even if I go back using the Time Machine, there is no data to restore. It seems it all relied on this Dropbox sync, which seems to be empty. Any ideas on what I can do? Absolutely gutted.46Views0likes2CommentsI deleted my friend's folder by accident in November. Can it be restored?
My friend gave me Can Edit permissions on her Dropbox Plus account, and on 13th November 2025 I deleted the entire folder (I thought I was making space on my laptop). Dropbox Plus has a 30 day recovery window, it's now January 2026 - is there any hope I can recover these now? It wasn't her fault! Thanks so much33Views0likes1CommentCan I restore files that have been permanently deleted if I upgrade to a paid plan?
I deleted the files stored in my Plus account on October 21, 2025, and transferred them to a new cloud service. After that, I downgraded my account to the Basic plan. However, the transfer to the new cloud was not completed successfully. I would like to know whether upgrading my Basic plan to a Professional account would allow me to recover those files, or if they have been permanently deleted. I have attempted to contact Get Help multiple times but have not received a clear or definitive answer. I would appreciate clarification on whether file recovery is still possible and, if so, what steps I should take. Thank you community for your assistance. Rebecca36Views0likes2Comments
