recently i have had issues with dropbox (db) opening files extemely slow. i figured it was my computer so i bought/installed a new 1tb solid state drive, reformatted, re-installed everything.. and it still opened slow, like 7-10 seconds per file (yes, can drive a man nuts). i decided to do a little troubleshooting and copied a file to my desktop to see if it still opened slow and BOOM.. flew open. so it looks like its dropbox that is having the issue. my dropbox folder is located on my c:. we live in the woods and have satellite for internet (not sure if that matters). windows 10, and brand new dell precision work station. windows defender is disabled (read that was an issue also). the files i mostly use are "autocad" files (.dwg) thanks for the help!Solved15KViews1like27CommentsLinking Excel files in Dropbox without changing their path.
We just switched to Dropbox for Business. We have several Excel files with formulas that link to other Excel files all saved in a shared folder. With our local server the links would work for every user the same. Now with using Dropbox, the link will work for one user and not for another user. If the 2nd user changes the file path to make the link work for them, then it will no longer work for the first user. How do we make it so all users in the shared file can open the Excel file and have the links update without having to change the file path for each user?Solved14KViews2likes3CommentsHow can I stream a video to my website from Dropbox online?
Hi Guys, So I will try and explain best I can. This is my website https://www.progressivedreamsmusic.com/ and this is a page on my website where I stream videos https://www.progressivedreamsmusic.com/a-progressive-journey-50/ The video that plays on the above page is hosted on my desktop in my dropbox pubic folder. I use a widget within wordpress (on my site) called FV Flowplayer Video Player that allows me to embed videos like this. What I do is copy the link of the video I want to stream and I paste it in FV Player, I change the end of the link from '?dl=0' to '?raw=1', I am not exactly sure why but without this the video won't play. Anyway, without that out of the way you can see what I am doing, but because over time this will take up lots of space on my desktop I want to know how I can stream a video from my online dropbox account like this? I want to store these very large video files in dropox cloud, maybe a public folder on my online account? Basically I want to not eat up my computers hhd space and instead do this via online instead Can anyne help me ?Solved25KViews1like2CommentsAccidentally hid a file using the device's Properties and now I can't locate it.

Thanks very much in advanceSolved21KViews1like4CommentsUnable to scroll through photos in Windows Explorer/Photos application
Typically when you open a photo (not synced with Dropbox) in Windows 10, the photo opens in Windows' Photos default application. Once the photo opens, you can use the right and left arrows on the keyboard to cycle through other photos in the same folder. It's a very handy feature that appears to be disabled when the folder is synced with Dropbox. Instead I have to now close the photo and manually open the next file from the folder. These photos are locally-synced through Smart Sync. Can anyone tell me if this is normal behavior? Is there a setting that enables the arrow key scrolling again?Solved11KViews0likes4CommentsLatest email from Dropbox contains x-webdoc links that don't work
Got an email this morning from Dropbox - subject: "Introducing: Our newest set of tools to simply your life". The email contains links to various new features ... that are going to simply our lives apparently. e.g. x-webdoc://C33115A8-807A-463D-B0AA-ECE1119E84A1/experience.dropbox.com/resources/information-architecture-for-distributed-work?_tk=email&_camp=3216404&_ad=8566dbc5b57a4d3c95d278d1337f7282&utm_source=iter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=us-en&utm_campaign=p1_bb_co_all_pcn_b202111&utm_content=m2_c email link However, I can't find a browser that will open the x-webdoc: protocol. Anyone else able to do get this to work? I tried Mac/Safari, Mac/Chrome, Windows/Chrome - all without success. Whatever happened to just straightforward URL links to a specific page? BTW this is NOT making my life more simply, its complicating it by having to write this forum entry. Plus ... if you go to your Dropbox account, you CAN add tags to folders and files and search for them. This is good for any new folders/files uploaded. However, it doesn't help with 1,000s of existing folders/files. AND - for me, I'd have been MUCH happier have a search feature that I could restrict to just folder names or just file names, not 100s of files that CONTAIN part of whatever it is I'm searching for. So for me, at least, these new features (despite not being able to easily find out about them because of the x-webdoc based link) STILL does not provide a simple search feature for folders and/or files. Another reason I won't be renewing my subscription next September, unless things improve.Solved11KViews0likes3CommentsEntering info on a new text file scrolls to the bottom of the page on my Android. Can I stop it?
When entering data into a new text file the screen automatically scrolls to the bottom of the page and I have to manually go to the top again to enter data but after a few seconds it go to the bottom again. Very annoying. It just started this a few months ago. I tried deleting the app on my Android device and reinstalling and signing in. No luck. Any suggestions?Solved15KViews1like16CommentsLoss of reliable “Date Modified” behavior is destroying file discovery and productivity
I need to raise a serious productivity issue that has fundamentally broken how I work in Dropbox. For years, my workflow depended on being able to sort and find files reliably by Date Modified. This is not a “nice to have” feature, it is essential for meeting deadlines. I work across many active projects and frequently need to locate the most recently edited file quickly. Since Dropbox began forcing background indexing / “modifying” files, the Date Modified field has effectively become meaningless. Files that I have not touched are suddenly marked as modified, while files I actually worked on recently are buried or out of order. What used to take seconds now takes hours. This has had very real consequences: I can no longer trust sorting by Date Modified I waste huge amounts of time opening files just to verify which version is current My ability to meet deadlines has been severely impacted My productivity has dropped dramatically To be clear: This is not user error, not a learning curve issue, and not a preference change. This is a regression in core file-management behavior. If Dropbox needs to index files internally, that process should not overwrite or redefine the user-visible “Date Modified” metadata. That breaks established OS-level workflows and makes Dropbox actively hostile to professional use. At minimum, Dropbox needs to provide one of the following: A way to preserve true file modification dates A separate, clearly labeled field for “Last Indexed” or “Dropbox Activity” Or an option to disable indexing behaviors that rewrite modified timestamps Right now, Dropbox is making it harder, not easier, to find my own work. I am genuinely questioning whether I can continue using it for professional projects if this behavior remains. I would really appreciate a response from Dropbox staff acknowledging this issue and explaining whether a fix or workaround is planned.31Views0likes1Comment
