delays between chunks using cURL
I'm trying to built a server script using bash scripting and cURL for upload/download/archive operations through the HTTP API. However, after(!) every append (v2) there is a varying delay betwee...

Any progress on this matter?

9 years agoThanks for checking in. There are actually two things happening here:
1) We had a recent performance regression that slowed down processing on these calls. We're working on that.
2) Separate from that regression, there is some delay expected with these calls, while the servers process the uploaded data. That is expected, though not ideal. We are looking into ways to avoid this, but I can't make any promises or offer a timeline right now.

I'd be glad if you would keep us posted on this matter whenever these issues get resolved.- Greg-DB8 years ago

The team has finished some further work on this, and is reporting the performance should be back to about previous levels. There is certainly still room left for improvement, and the team has an open feature request to improve performance in general, but I don't have a timeline for if/when further improvements would be implemented.- SamiSan8 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Thanks for letting us know! I've re-ran the tests and this whole issue still persists and is partly even worse than before (adding up some seconds to the delays between the chunks). I think you should generally inform users about this issue, because I see people complaining about bad upload speed. The speed uploading single chunks is actually great but the overall upload time is very long because of the delays in between uploading chunks due to dropbox probably calculating hashes to check whether the content is on a censored-content list or something like that.
The folder-sync using an app does not seem to be affected by this. It's only direct uploads using REST API or the web interface.
I'd really like this issue being resolved, since me and a lot of my colleagues would love to use Dropbox because of some of its features with which the competition lags behind.
