Video streaming speed from dropbox

HI,

We have developed an application from which user can log-in and play files from dropbox using our own media player. we continuously download the stream and play in parallel. In between streaming we see that download rate goes down drastically and we need to show the buffering indicator.

for example:

while trying to play a video/hevc file with a resolution of 3840x2160, normal download rate would be 12-16MB, but in between, download rate falls down to 3KB or 0KB.

any reason for this?

There are many factors that can affect connection speed in real world use. For example, all of the Dropbox servers are located in the US. Your connection speed to Dropbox depends on the routing you get between your ISP and our servers, and may be slower than your ISP's rated speeds.

Sometimes resetting or retrying your connection gets you a different route and better speeds, but that is outside of our control. Some ISPs also throttle sustained connections so if you see an initial high connection speed followed by lower speeds, that could be the reason.
