Dropbox as a network drive

I am running an office with 8 people. We all need real time access to mainly word docs and PDFs. We have been operating as a private network of 8 desktops all linked together with one desktop being the server. Now we want to have mobile access. So the idea is to move all our files to a cloud like drop box and then use drop box as our main hard drive that all our computers can access and save too and modify and in real time. I think this would require us to map Dropbox as a network drive on all our computers. Is this something that can be done and will there be lag time when saving or modifying documents? If this can’t be done with drop box is there another way to do this so we can all have mobile access to our files in real time?

Hi there emassey44, welcome to the Dropbox Community!

Dropbox makes sure that you've got your files availble and up to date with syncing.

When you place a file in your account and edit it, that file will be available and up to date on any other device you've connected and signed in to.

This also means that you don't need to set is as a network or a drive, as it's purpose is to sync content from one device to another.

You can also have a look at our desktop app and mobile app for more info.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hi emassey44,

You can install Dropbox application only on your server desktop and continue working on all 8 desktops almost without change. Just a variant not to install on every one computer and engage local space, if that's not desirable. Only thing you have to do is put your shared folder in the Dropbox folder. That's it.

    The choice is yours.
