You can reset the file path for these folders with the steps below:
- Navigate to the system's Desktop/Downloads/Documents folders via the File Explorer (not the folders in Dropbox).
- Right click the folder and choose "Properties".
- Go to the "Location" tab.
- Choose to reset the default folder path.
If you're having trouble locating these folders, they would be under the path C:/users/[your username]/
If you have any trouble with these steps then please let me know the exact step that you're running into issues. You can send along a screenshot too if relevant.

3 years agoHi acej, have you enabled the computer backup feature? What happens if you try to disable it?

It is disabled and the 'ghost' files still appear. Thanks.

By ghost files, do you mean that the Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders are still present in the Dropbox folder?
Does the Mac device default to those locations when trying to open the Desktop folder for instance?

Not sure what you mean. I've attached a screen shot, the file circled in red is an example of a "ghost" file, it

Hey acej, have you restarted your computer ever since this started happening?
If that doesn't help, I would also suggest re-indexing your Spotlight.

I've done both these things and it didn't help.

Are you able to find the exact location that the ghost file points to? Is it on the same path as your original post? Is the normal file another file in your Dropbox folder, or somewhere else?
- acej3 years agoCollaborator | Level 9
I can't find the exact location, the many ghost files only appear in Spotlight searches, thus it is very annoying as it clogs up the viewing trying to find the real files. The normal files are in my dropbox folder on my computer.

Are you not able to right click the ghost files in the search to determine where they are located at all?
- acej3 years agoCollaborator | Level 9
No. Clicking on them doesn't do anything.

If you quit the Dropbox desktop application entirely, and then try searching, do these ghost files appear again?
- acej3 years agoCollaborator | Level 9
Yes.

Yes, please contact me via email. I don't want to post it publicly, do you have it on record in my account?
