I have a laptop that I don't use often that's connected to my Dropbox account. I turned it on and was doing some stuff and needed to free up some space. So I went in with a disk scanner and found some old file trees I don't need on that machine and deleted them, thinking I was just deleting the local copies. A couple of days later I got emails from Dropbox that said a new computer had logged-in (it's not new, but it has been a while since I used it) and that over 65,000 files had been deleted from Dropbox! When I went to look at them, all I could see are their file names, not their folders. I don't recall what folders they were, but they're old project files that I did NOT want to delete from Dropbox. I'm not sure what to do now. I want to keep them on Dropbox but not on that laptop. What should I do to simply UN-DELETE them to Dropbox and wherever they were before -- but not on this laptop? How can I see them as a file-tree with their folders? There are a lot of programming project files and dozens of them have the same names. (Actually, I don't really care, I just need to restore them in Dropbox but not on any of the machines connected to it.) Also, what's the proper way of deleting big chunks of files on a local machine without removing them from Dropbox? (I didn't go through the Dropbox app or web site to delete them; is that necessary?) I have a 2TB limit (Plus account) on my account, which I use mainly for backup. I don't think any of my computers could load in the entire list of files today.36Views0likes7CommentsAround 500 images created via Arduino IDE were randomly deleted via my mobile app.
So I am trying to understand what has happened, and how to avoid it again (i'm assuming it is something I have done) I'm coding micro controllers for a project of mine (arduino IDE) and have about 100 versions of said program saved in my dropbox. Everytime I create a new version it creates a new directory with about 20 files for the program. All this programing is done on a PC. My phone is also connected to dropbox but only back's up images taken on my phone to dropbox. My issue is that a week ago my phone deleted 5 jpg files repeatedly from each of these 100+ program file directories. All 500ish images ( basicly 5 images representing battery charging indicator repeated in 100 seperate diectories) were deleted in about 2 minutes, so it's not something that could have been done manually in that time. My question is what happened and how do I make sure it doesnt happen again41Views0likes6CommentsI received a Dropbox notification saying my folder is going to expire. What does that mean?
I don't understand much about Dropbox, and it is virtually impossible to get answers, but....Does Dropbox sometimes remove files from your folder without your request or permission? Just now, I received the following message: 1 day until expiration for Annette Hanshaw's RECORDINGS (1926-1934). Does that mean that Dropbox is going to remove a folder that I have put there? Why? What can I do? (4/27/25;8:41 AM PST)147Views0likes9CommentsI can't see the filepath for the files that have been deleted from my Dropbox account.
I get these emails, "You recently deleted 5997 files from your Dropbox account.". Since I dont remember deleting anything I try to figure out what it was. When clicking See deleted files I get this: System.Runtime.Extensions.dl Deleted 17.62KB System.Runtime.InteropServices.dll Deleted 89.12KB System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe.dll Deleted 15.12KB System.Reflection.Extensions.dll Deleted 15.12KB System.Reflection.Emit.dll Deleted 39.17KB System.Resources.Writer.dll Deleted 17.12KB System.Runtime.CompilerServices.VisualC.dll Deleted 17.62KB System.Reflection.TypeExtensions.dll Deleted 20.17KB It's impossible to know what was deleted. Would be amazing if you could provide a path as well. Then I could see what the hell has been deleted. Now it's impossible.54Views1like3CommentsAllow us to resize the chat window. Also, my files have been deleted after 30 days. How?
Make the chat window to have ability to pop out and move to another screen if necessary. It's crazy to not have this capability when most chat windows allow resizing, pop-out, etc. so your reps and the customers can see what is being typed versus a tiny window that cannot be resized. This should have been done years ago, especially given you will NOT talk to anyone that isn't a paid business subscriber, no matter the reason. In my case my plan is all screwed up and i'm being charged $199 a year and my data gets deleted after 30 days?!? Also have a TBI and you guys have created so much difficulty just trying to get basic answers as to why and how this occurred. Since you will not talk to customers even with the professional plan and the one higher, please fix the chat box so it can be moved out of the way and/or at least resizable within the app window at a minimum. Last week my main PC W10, named "Qanto", went crazy making it impossible to use. I was building a new PC. Again W10. In an urgent move, I started to configure it as the New Main PC. Name "TwenyFour" or T24 for friends :-D. While I was here, being forced to access many useful settings stored in "PC/settings BKP" under Dropbox, I also looked around on the PC folder where many Install.Dirs are also hosted. I used this BKP technique on an SD stick for many years, but having Dropbox maintaining that storage updated is much better. _____________________________ Perusing all Dropbox Folders to manage software, and much more ... I've found a lot of old parts saved there not usable anymore. That's a good opportunity to make some order and do some cleaning. Every time I reboot the T24, the notification "do you want to delete XYZ?" appears and asks for an Ok, I give "OK", then another appears, etc, etc, etc may be twenty times :-( ... I've read another 6-year-old thread where reasons were explained, but I found it quite intrusive to insert that ... and stupid not being present in the "notification options setting". No solution appeared so far in that thread, and a search on the forum did not give me interesting results. ANY HELP to block those things? (It never appeared on my old device, it's still not appearing on the W11 laptop ) 6 years .. Hi everyone, I'm using Dropbox Backup and I would like to understand how version control works. Is it possible to limit the number of backup versions per file? For example, can I set Dropbox to keep only the 10 most recent versions of a file, automatically deleting the oldest one when a new version is created? Alternatively, do I need to manually delete old versions? Is there an option for automatic deletion based on the age of a version (e.g. after a certain number of days)? Thanks in advance for your help!47Views0likes3CommentsQuestions about syncing and organizing the Dropbox folder
Hello! (1) Can I delete the whole dropbox-folder architecture (because sync does not work anymore) without risking to loose any data (folder) of my dropbox? (2) How can I indicate the status of the file for uploading, i.e., sync offline, or, only-one file, etc? (3) How can I change the status of a file or folder according to (2)? Thank you.28Views0likes1CommentCan deleted photos be retrieved from Deleted Files?
3 days ago I deleted some individual in-named, un-filed single iPhone uploaded pictures. A few minutes ago I tried retrieving some from the deleted files section and after adjusting the filters, nothing came up. (1)Is there a grace period for retrieving? (2)Are deleted files the only items retrievable and not individual un-filed pictures? I’m a bit confused as to (3)what the difference between files and phone uploads and camera uploads are other than the obvious, deleting un-filed un-named singles individually to files having a name, files holding multiple pictures and ability to delete a whole file with pics all at once. (5)But with it being called “ Deleted Files”, are they all considered the same when deleting and retrieving them? It seems that Dropbox puts all my uploaded unfiled and un-named singles under camera uploads or phone uploads, (6)which I suppose, they could be considered pre-named Dropbox files (7)Not sure if I can delete pictures as a whole from these (files?) (8)because when opened, the two prenamed dropbox file formats look different than that of a file I named. (9)Dropbox’s Camera uploads and Phone uploads (files?) would make more sense to me if i uploaded photos with a secondary device like a Nikon camera or…..a Cannon. But all my Dropbox photo uploads are sourced from my iPhone camera. So that too is a bit confusing because I don’t choose where my singles go. They just go. Sometimes they go to both prenamed Dropbox (files?) I’ve had Dropbox for 10 years. (10)Looking for answers.37Views0likes4CommentsMoving files on my desktop to the trash deletes them immediately instead.
I am running Dropbox Backup. On MacOS, when I drag a file on my desktop to the trash, it is deleted automatically. In other words, it does not appear in the trash in case I want to recover it later. I get a warning that says "This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action." When the same file is in any other folder or location on my computer besides the Desktop, and I drag it to the trash, the behavior is normal - the files goes into the trash where I can see it and recover it if need be. I am running Dropbox Backup on Sequoia 15.2 on a 2020 M1 Macbook Air. Any thoughts?128Views0likes13Comments
