I want to delete files from dropbox completely
My dropbox file is an organized mess. I want to delete all of the files and upload the active files thereby restructuring.
- Hi spikejj--, thanks for posting today!
You can delete files from your Dropbox account by deleting them from the Dropbox folder on your machine, if the Dropbox desktop application is installed.
Otherwise, you can delete them from the Dropbox site, which would then delete them from all connected devices.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know!

Hey, Jay - Thanks for the answer. I'd like to maintain the files. Where can I bank them once I've deleted them from the Dropbox app? Or is this where you say, dummy, you just deleted them.

If you delete the files from Dropbox, they'll be deleted from the Dropbox folder as well.
If you want to keep them safe, you can drag the files out of the Dropbox folder to another location entirely, so they remain on your computer. The files would also be deleted from the account once moved out of the Dropbox folder. - Schockydoc3 years agoNew member | Level 2How the heck do I delete files?! One that no longer interest me.
And I think I’ve duplicated some by mistake! I need to free up some storage space - Rich3 years ago

This doesn't work. Why does Dropbox make it so RIDICULOUSLY difficult to delete files? Oh, that's right, because if our Dropbox account fills up, we have to pay for, or pay for more storage.

Hey ruglove - thanks for sharing your thoughts on this with us.
Can you please clarify if you're referring to the Dropbox website or maybe the Dropbox desktop or mobile app?
If you could also elaborate on the issue you're having and/or what's troubling you, it'd be very helpful.
Thank you.

To address ruglove's point.
If you want to delete as many files as quickly as possible, the Dropbox Desktop app is going to be your best bet, assuming everything is synced. Dropbox web and mobile will be a bit of a slower process.
On that same note, a quick reminder that Dropbox only keeps deleted files for 30 days. Use the trash bin wisely 😅
