Based on what you’re describing, the file request upload likely stopped or failed before it finished on the sender’s side.
If only 103 GB uploaded successfully, Dropbox will show your files as up to date even though the full 286 GB never arrived. You do not need to start over. Ask the sender to re-upload the missing files using the same file request link or a new one, and the additional files will be added to the folder.
