After researching, it seems that deleting or permanently deleting or even emptying your recycle bin don't free up space on Dropbox!!!
That is not true. Deleting files will free up space in your account, though it might take a little bit before your space usage is updated. You don't need to permanently delete files. Simply deleting files is enough to free up space.

Really? Not one person in all my research has been successful in getting space to free up after deleting. It even says on Dropbox's help site that deleting won't free up space.

Hi jillspen. Can you please send me a screenshot of what you see here? How much data did you approximately delete from your Dropbox account?
Also, where did you see exactly that deleting files from your Dropbox account doesnât free up space?
Thanks!

Thanks for this screenshot, jillspen!
The point youâve highlighted means exactly that deleted files/folders donât take up space from your Dropbox account, so itâs not necessary to permanently delete them, since they should already not be taking up any space (like Rich also mentioned above).
Can you also send me a screenshot of what you see here? How much space was taken on your Dropbox account, before you deleted the folders you mention?
