11 months agoDropbox Vault will be discontinued
Do you know what you are you doing ?????
Hey guys!
Thanks for showing your interest in Dropbox Vault.
To concentrate our efforts on further improving our existing security features and building new capabilities around advanced data protection, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault.
From March 4th Dropbox Vault will no longer be available. If you’re currently using your Vault, that folder will automatically turn into a standard Dropbox folder, that doesn’t require a PIN to access. The files in your folder will remain the same.
I hope this clarifies!

Everyone on this thread needs to start posting complaints on their LinkedIn page. That should get some real attention

Awful decision. I’m glad I’m not the only one furious at this asinine decision. I may have to seek out other alternatives to Dropbox as vault was literally the selling point for me when I signed up several years ago.

Agree 100% Joedmartinez. I'm actively researching a new file sharing service. Vault was the only reason that I went with Dropbox. If you do indeed make the switch a different service, please let us know which one.

Thanks for the reply and for the tip about OneDrive. I'll definitely be looking at that service. Appreciate it!

Frankly- I’m tired of Dropbox constantly changing things around- they are careless about their customers and the experience they provide. Vault is a valuable feature to me that they are removing and it’s enough for me to finalize my transition to Box.
It’s also incredibly concerning that they would just unprotect critical files without a users consent.

I have been a paid user for more than 10 years. My institution has free box and onedrive accounts with 200GB and 1T capacities respectively. One main reason I stick with dropbox is the vault folder, which provides an extra layer of security for certain files. I will have to over come my laziness to move to onedrive if this essential feature is taken away.

Count me as one of the livid Dropbox customers (soon not to be) about the discontinuation of a password encrypted Vault. What other options are out there. I've used Dropbox for over 10 years and I'm thinking it's time to make a change. Suggestions??

Decided to comment on another post about Vault going away to show how angry I am about this decision...
I whole-heartily agree with the main post and all the comments. As a paying customer for 15+ years now, I am extremely upset and disappointed in this decision. It seems completely out of left field and without any consultation with paying customers as to what they think. It seems to be a purely cost-cutting measure at the detrimental expense of the security and peace of mind of all their users.
It's just a slap in the face.
I hope Dropbox reconsiders this very ill-considered decision, or I (and likely others) may have to look for alternative solutions.

It appears they didn't ask the consumer about this decision, just the higher ups at Dropbox. Maybe these young bucks ought to Google what Coke did back in the 90s. History always repeats itself.

I've been leaving this service renewing on autopilot for years now purely for this feature and laziness to change. Looks like I'm just got the impetus to create a little app to solve this problem for myself for free essentially. Silly decision
