Hey RickWinkPa, welcome to our Community!
Just to clarify: do you wish to know how many files you can have on your device in order to switch to File Provider, or generally how many files you can store while using it? The performance of the Dropbox desktop app can decline if you have more than 300,000 files synced to your computer, and you’d also need around that same number to migrate.
You can read more about this here.
Having said that you can store as many files as you wish using your Dropbox account, as long as your quota allows.
If you need something else, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help every step of the way.
PS: Please keep in mind that we are working on an update to the Community and will be available read-only from Monday, March 30 to Wednesday, April 8. You can read more about that here.
