I have done a complete uninstall using app cleaner, then deleted any library files containing the words dropbox. I then did a fresh reinstall. However dropbox desktop will not run since appdata points to a non-existant location: See appdata below. When adding files to my Dropbox folder on my Mac, I occasionally see some files which appear in the Finder with a dotted line cloud icon in the state "waiting to upload". These files will never sync to Dropbox or my other computers until I manually double click on the file to open it, and THEN the sync starts and shows up on my other computers running the Dropbox app. In case it matters, these files are being created automatically in the Dropbox folder by my scanner software (ScanSnap). This does not happen with all files created by ScanSnap, it seems to happen occasionally to random files (90% of files seem to sync correctly). I'm seeing this on macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 with Dropbox v212.4.576715Views0likes3CommentsAfter using the Apple Migration Assistant, I ended up with two Dropbox folders.
I have used Apple's Migration Assistant to move all my content from one Mac to a new Mac. I keep all of my Dropbox files on my computer, so all my Dropbox files are transferred to the new Mac. Now Dropbox is creating a new Dropbox folder and downloading all of my files. How should I best handle this?Solved54Views0likes9CommentsHigh RAM usage on Mac OS
Hello all, Dropbox user since decades back. I'm on Mac Silicon (M1 laptop, 8GB RAM). Dropbox takes up ≈5GB out of my 8. Obviously a problem, and googling around reveals that this has plagued Dropbox since at least 2021. I know there are thousands of users suffering from this, and I also know I can restart Dropbox every morning to keep it in check - but I was wondering if anyone actually found a longterm solution? Data: MacOS 11.6 8GB RAM Dropbox version 208.4.5824 Selective Sync on (Only sync about half of my folders) Amount of files in Dropbox: around 43'000 files&folders Most folders "online only" (to save HDD space) Dropbox Badge: off Symptom: RAM-usage after a Dropbox restart: ≈600MB. RAM-usage after 7 days: ≈4-6GB. (No major changes to Dropbox content during this period) Thanks in advance, / A352Views0likes6CommentsDropbox app doesn't launch automatically in the menu bar (Mac)
Since I updated Dropbox recently, the app no longer launches automatically nor does it appear in the top toolbar whenever I start up my MacBook. I have to manually launch it every time. I have looked at my list of login items in Mac Preferences, and Dropbox is definitely checked. Does anyone know if I can make the app launch automatically again?13Views0likes1CommentThe app re-indexes all files after each restart on Mac.
Each time I restart my Mac, Dropbox goes through reindexing of (seemingly) all files in my folder. The Mac's CPU usage goes up and the fan kicks in - it makes the computer slow for at least 15 minutes. It does finally complete, but it would obviously be much better if this did not happen.14Views0likes3CommentsI don't see the "transfer a copy" option for non-Dropbox files on my Mac computer.
I've mostly been a Windows user, and use a MacBook for on the go. Lately I've been using MacOS a bit more and one thing I am missing from windows, is the ability to send any file (even ones that are not in your Dropbox) via Dropbox Transfer, by right clicking the file and then choosing "Transfer a copy..." or whatever it is on Windows. Is that feature not available on mac? Or is there just something wrong with my finder context menu? Thank youSolved72Views0likes6CommentsSyncing icons are missing from Dropbox folder in macOS Sequoia
hey! I have a new iMac with sequoia installed. I have the dropbox desktop app but it won't allow me to see the syncing symbols or right click and download. I know there is a setting in the privacy/security tab and then to click something in extensions.. but sequoia does not have those settings. just wondering if anyone has a solution for this35Views0likes3CommentsDropbox on macOS is using too much RAM while just sitting idle
I checked how much RAM I was using at the moment. The only open apps I have are Safari, HandBrake, Bbedit and Word. Neither of those is using any file hosted on dropbox nor is any app uploading or downloading anything. The only dropbox open process is the one sitting idle in the menu bar. This is completely unacceptable as any other cloud service app uses at most 55MBs (as of now Google Drive process is using 55.2 MBs and OneDrive, managing two different accounts, is currently using 45MBs). I'm using an updated macOS version (14.2) on a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Dropbox app version is188.4.6302.1.6KViews0likes20Comments
