Received "Move your Dropbox folder to a supported location" email
To get around the recent glibc version requirement on a Red Hat Enterprise 7 system, I'm running the Dropbox client in a Docker container with the Dropbox and .dropbox folders mounted externally on a...
- 8 years agoHey @tpkelliher, we recognize that our new system requirements will make it difficult to run the desktop application on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and its derivatives & we apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.Other than that, it's also possible to receive an email but not be impacted by the end of support event. We reached out to users who run Dropbox on unsupported operating systems or whose operating system report "unknown" Linux operating systems or versions. Please ensure all devices meet our new operating system requirements. In other words, I understand that youâd like to act pro-actively, though if our system requirements are met, then Dropbox should continue working as expected.Users who are unable to meet the new system requirements can still access their files through dropbox.com on a supported browser. In addition, they can use the Dropbox app on supported Linux, Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices. In any event, as youâve already reached out to us here, Iâd like to re-assure you that this is a direct point of contact. If you have any follow-up questions, please do let me know here & Iâll make sure to get back in touch with you on my end. Thanks & enjoy the rest of your day until we talk again!

7 years agoHey there (jory), while we currently support Ubuntu 14.04 (or higher) & Fedora 21 (or higher), let me quickly rephrase that youâd need to locate Dropbox folder on an ext4-formatted hard drive or partition if youâd like to run the Dropbox app.
From there, ecryptfs isnât currently supported, but Dropbox will continue to sync with supported file systems that are encrypted via full disk encryption (e.g. LUKS).
That said, Iâm wondering if the issue youâre facing pertains to your current configuration, so Iâd appreciate it if you could elaborate a bit on your current setup. As an additional note, it would be worth mentioning that your device doesnât meet the operating system requirements, you may still be able to use the Dropbox desktop application, but results may vary.
Iâll be awaiting your next reply here, so as to further advise on the best next steps!

I'll try the full-disk LVM encryption in couple of days and will provide the results here.
