Retain Vault!
There are so many reasons to continue Vault but a key one is that the Dropbox folder on a PC (and a Mac?) is not protected by Windows or iOs in any normal way. Vault made protection possible for key files.
But of course being able to protect the entire Dropbox folder on a PC or Mac would be an even better idea!

Thanks for showing your interest in Dropbox Vault.
To concentrate our efforts on further improving our existing security features and building new capabilities around advanced data protection, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault.
From March 4th Dropbox Vault will no longer be available. If you’re currently using your Vault, that folder will automatically turn into a standard Dropbox folder, that doesn’t require a PIN to access. The files in your folder will remain the same.
However, Dropbox is steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding your data.
Our applications and infrastructure are regularly tested for security vulnerabilities, and hardened to enhance security and protect against attacks.
There are also steps that you can take to enhance the security of your account.
These steps include:
- Setting up 2-step authentication
- Creating a strong password
- Conducting a security checkup
- Protecting shared files and folders with passwords

I’d “like” except that I’ve been happy with DropBox until now. It’s not perfect and I’d like to think all these comments will lead to improvements, but if not, you’re right, we should look for alternatives (at the moment I’m using an Ironkey but that’s far from perfect itself).
Or one more step:
Cancel DropBox and find a new program that:
has an encrypted cloud base for photos & videos
able to hide / vault protect photos & videos
edit/organize/ search/view by titles given and displayed without opening file
This pretty much means the Vault was never really secured to begin with. They're losing money.

Totally agree! So when vault goes away and becomes a regular folder. The contents are not protected anymore? Ya, if we have to set up a security pin or whatever for the vault files, do we need to do so for the other files?
We need to have the next few years at a discounted price, i.e. the price we paid before the extra cost of putting in the vault app.
Or, maybe money back on our subscription.
Definitely a bad move, especially since no clear explanations as to why.
The Vault needs to stay. It is used daily. Horrible decision!!!!!!!
In addition, there’s been no clear statement about the deficiencies (or even the costliness) of Vault.
You know what is the most absurd thing here: Dropbox is most likely spending more time and effort sunsetting the feature (think about cost of engineering, legal and communication teams having endless meetings about how to sunset and inform users) than just maintaining the feature as BAU.
You make no sense Dropbox. You can't ABRUPTLY discontinue a feature AND NOT PROVIDE A PROPER REASON OR REPLACEMENT (be it discount or alternative) and then blurt out platitudes like 🤡 "DroPbOx iS steAdFaSt in iTs coMitmEnt to sAfeGuArding yoUr dAta" 🤡. So either:
- You provide a temporary discount to users who were using the feature since this is a breach of terms of services
- You provide a detailed reason as to what is the problem with the current vault and why it needs to be shut down, and we paying users decide whether it is an acceptable reason that does not warrant further action.
It doesn’t clarify. Does this mean our Vault data wasn’t protected? The whole reason for paying for extra space was because sensitive files could be stored in a protected area. I have seen in other comments that we would still be able to use online (another safety?) but will it still be available on iPad, or iPhone? Will our subscription prices be discounted now because of the inconvenience? Can you at least make unshared folders/files have an option of setting a password to protect access to sensitive files? If not, like others, I will be looking elsewhere. I was a loyal customer for years. This clearly was a bad move in this world of daily data breaches.
