Invite to my Employers Dropbox wanting me to subscribe or upgrade
I had access to my employer's account but it was linked to an old email address I no longer have access to. Now my Boss has invited me to join his Dropbox folder again to my personal Dropbox account...

It sounds like your boss send you an invite to a shared folder and didn't invite you to their Dropbox for Business teams account, assuming they're using one that is.

Do you happen to have connected your accounts previously? I mean, have you paired your personal account (the one you're using at the moment) with the one you had in the past perhaps?
What exactly is shown in your plan tab at the moment?

I don't think I have connected any accounts in the past with my current account. Here is what I have when I clicked the tab you provided:
