If you want to make the most of the space youâve got in your Dropbox plan, you might be wondering what a gigabyte (GB) is. Well, donât worry, youâre not the only one, so we decided to write a simple guide to help you understand your space.
To put it very simply, a gigabite is a unit of measurement used for data storage. If youâre on a Dropbox Basic plan, youâll be allocated 2GB worth of free storage space. If youâre on this plan, most of the files youâll be saving will be measured in megabytes (MB) and there are about 1,000 megabytes in every gigabyte.
So, just to break this down a little further, if youâre using your Dropbox account specifically for storing music, and you have a music library of 400 songs, each measuring 4MB, youâll need 1.6GB to hold them. We can figure that out by multiplying 4MB X 400, which comes to 1,600MB or 1.6GB. You can learn more about how much space your files take up here.
If youâre signed up to a Dropbox Plus account, your space allocation will be measured in terabites (TB). Each terabit contains around 1,000GB. The allocation for a Dropbox Plus plan is 2TB, so that means you would have around 2,000GB worth of space to store your files. Thatâs a thousand times more space than you get on the Basic plan, and room for a lot of songs!
