How the Dropbox Ideas Board Works

At Dropbox we believe that the best ideas come from the people who use it every day. That’s why we created Dropbox Ideas - a space where our community can share and vote for feature requests and suggestions which help shape the future of Dropbox. Every idea submitted has the power to influence how we grow and improve, building a better experience together.

Have you got an idea for Dropbox? We can’t wait to hear it!

Many of our best features began as community suggestions and your input truly makes a difference. Here are some ways you can contribute:

  • Vote for ideas you support ✅
  • Comment to share your story or feedback 💬
  • Follow ideas to get updates when statuses change 🔔
  • Explore other suggestions and cheer on the ones you love 🎉

Start Smart: Search First 💬

Before you post, try typing a few keywords into the Dropbox Ideas search bar. If someone’s already suggested something similar, you can:

  • Add your vote - every vote counts, it helps others to see the popularity of an idea, and lets our team understand the level of passion and interest behind a request.
  • Add a comment - join the conversation, and share how this idea would help you. Feel free to add any extra details or information you were going to suggest in your idea.

Got a question or ran into a bug? Head over to Help - those kinds of posts aren’t reviewed in Ideas.

How to Share Your Idea 💡

First things first, visit the Dropbox Community Ideas board and click Suggest an idea in the top right corner.

Follow these steps to make your idea stand out:

  1. Use a clear, searchable title - think about what you would type into the search bar
  2. Describe your idea in detail - what it is, how it works and how it would help
  3. Keep it to one idea per post - this makes it easier for others to understand, discuss and vote on your suggestion
  4. Add real life context - examples, current workaround or why this matter to you
  5. Tag it right - choose the most relevant tag (e.g., Desktop app, sharing, etc)
  6. Hit Post and you’re done!

To get you started, check out these two examples that use out tips perfectly: Allow users to enable/disable visible file extensions on iOS and Allow us to watermark multiple selected photos at once.

The Idea Journey - What Happens Next? 🔍

Once you submit an idea, it appears in our Ideas board. Other members can vote and comment to show their support and share how’d they’d use that feature.
