I want to better understand how Dash works, and if it's AI enabled.
Hello, I am getting ready to do a massive file naming convention overhaul on a huge Dropbox Account, and want to better understand how Dash works. Is this AI enabled? Where does prompt data go? How secure is Dropbox Dash?
As it stands the Dropbox Naming Convention tool, does not have enough unique settings to create the sub-folder system with proper metatags. Help!

Hi folks!
I hope you're all doing well.
I have been directly chatting with our Product team in charge of Dash on this matter. The bad news is that Dash does not allow to edit files automatically at the moment. This means that there is not way to use Dash to create an automated, sophisticated naming convention for now radionadine.
Like Mark was saying, Dash's functionalities are around finding information in all your files and online services, generating smart content, analyzing documents, querying files about... pretty much anything!, and protecting access to your files.
The good news is that the team is working on this, and exploring how we could provide this functionality in the future. We don't have a timeline yet, but stay tuned!
Hope this helps 😊
Have a nice day!- radionadineNew member | Level 2

Hi there, radionadine, welcome to our Community!
Let me answer your questions one at a time.
How does Dash work and is it AI enabled?
Dash is an AI-powered universal search tool that allows you to find files, links and knowledge across connected apps. It acts as a smart layer on top of your tools, indexing metadata and content from connected apps without moving/copying files. It uses AI to perform these actions and others including AI-powered chat.
Where does prompt data go?
This feature uses third-party generative AI to create content. Your data is never used to train their internal models, and is deleted from third-party servers within 30 days. Learn more about Dropbox AI and your privacy here.
How secure is Dropbox Dash?
Dropbox Dash is built on the same established security infrastructure as Dropbox and follows the best industry practices. You can find out more about how our security works here.If you need something else, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help every step of the way!

radionadine I would advise checking out https://help.dropbox.com/dash for more information.
Keep in mind that Dropbox AI is still in Beta and not fully available so it might not be the best source of ruth on the matter.

Hi radionadine,
I'm glad to hear you're interested in learning more about Dash, and the team have shared some links with you already so I won't overload you, but I would love to know more about your goal of updating your naming convention - are you looking to use Dash to do the update or to understand how Dash works when searching so your naming convention matches that?
Based on what the other folks in the thread have said, there are a lot of AI-enabled tools within Dash that could help overall, but there isn't a direct naming convention update in there yet, however, if you can share any more details on your goals here or the limits with the existing Naming Convention tool, I can bring them to the team to be sure we're answering your whole question.
In the meantime, Dash's AI-powered universal search can help you quickly locate and organize files based on specific criteria, which should make the renaming process easier overall. Additionally, the automated file tagging feature can assist in categorizing files with relevant metatags, so again any info on the limitations you're hitting would help us get to the bottom of this.
Let me know if that helps at all, we'd love to get your problem sorted!

Hi Amy,
I was hoping that Dash AI would be able to pull the specifics of a file naming convention out of a document and auto-save... or offer an option where we could plug in a file naming convention into the naming convention field, and it would stay that way until edited manually, but hold the convention in place so it was easier to input. EG: [YYYY-MM-DD]_[Product Type]_[Client-Name]_[Version].Ext
The other issue I faced with the naming convention options is the length of the convention within the field. Only 2 of this 5 part naming convention fits as the function allows.

Dash doesnt rename or edit files in anyway. Dash is much more around searching and displaying data relating to what files contain. I suppose its a giant search engine of your files which has the ability to group files together or suggest when you may use them etc.
