Deleted vs Permanently Deleted?

Deleted vs Permanently Deleted?

Hi folks,

I have a file in a shared folder that, at some point since I shared that folder in July of 2022, has been deleted. I can’t find it in my “deleted files” folder. I am willing to pay for Dropbox Premium (or whatever) to get it back via Rewind, but I am confused about the terminology. Rewind says it can recover files that have been deleted, but not files that have been PERMANENTLY deleted. What is the difference between the two? How do I know if this file can be recovered?

Thanks!

Hey @obesechess, thanks for joining our Community and sorry to hear about your missing file.

To directly get to the chase, deleted files or folders can be restored within a certain window of time, depending on your Dropbox plan while permanently deleted files and folders can’t be restored.

Also, note that even if you upgrade your account now, you won't be able to restore files that were deleted outside of your account's version history. The upgrade and new version history will start from the time you upgrade and won't work retroactively.

That said, do you see any sign of your missing file in your events page?

Keep me posted!

Hi Walter,

Is there a way to see the events page on the iOS app, or is that desktop only? If the latter, I’ll check when I get home.

You should be able to navigate to your events page from any web browser on any device @obesechess

If you're having issues with loading the page though, you can try another browser or requesting the desktop version of the site.
