restore
861 TopicsI edited an old document today, but I can't restore it to its previous version.
Question or Issue I have been using Dropbox for many years mainly as a backup system of all my files. I thought my data was save: If I ever edit/change for example a word document and then accidentally save it over the original instead of saving it with a different name, that Dropbox would keep a copy of the original (for 30 days). Today I have exactly that problem. I used a several year old document (as a template), changed the content but instead of saving it under a new name, just pressed "Save". I can't see the original in the version history. It looks like the original is now lost, because it was "older than 30 days". That to me doesn't make any sense. Even upgrading to the 180 or 365 day version would not have helped. Is that correct? If so, I will need to drop Dropbox and find another solution. Could you please confirm? Kind Regards, RalfSolved49Views0likes2CommentsCan I restore many files at once?
OK, here goes, looking for a one-in-a-million shot. And thank you very much to anyone who may answer me. I recently deleted almost all my word files in dropbox, through cyber-stupidity. Then I received an email saying I have thirty days to restore them. I eventually figured out that I can bring up "deleted files" and hit restore. But I want to go through hundreds of files to pick out many to restore, and my dropbox will only let me bring up twenty-five files for possible restoration, and will not let me scroll further to find other files to restore. By any chance, does someone out there with a LOT more computer knowledge than I possess, know how I can bring up deleted files and get the list to scroll all the way through the hundreds I have deleted so I can pick out a lot of them to restore? Again, I would be immensely grateful to receive a response. Heck, I'm such a computer dunce, I don't know that I'll be able to find the response if someone does reply to me. But again, thank you all for taking the time to read this note. Dave P.S. I have a Mac Mini.37Views0likes1CommentMy files appear to be empty after editing
Hello, I'm on an ASUS Zenbook running Windows 11. I have a shared dropbox folder that constantly has files getting wiped/copied (when they get copied they are empty) showing up on the dropbox. It always shows me editing the file and its usually multiple at the exact same time. All the files have nothing in them and instead are blank. I know you can restore the file but its been happening for months and across multiple different shared folders and its honestly a headache to fix. Help appreciated, thanks in advance.118Views0likes7CommentsI changed my password, and lost my files. And now I can't restore them to a previous version.
Windows 11 on a MSI desktop pc I have the basic Dropbox. I recently changed my gmail password and was prompted to restart Dropbox. I thought it would open my original dropbox with the same name but it seems to have overwritten it and all my files have disappeared. I did a system restore of my pc but that didn't affect Dropbox so tried going into properties and restoring a previous version. Clicking that brings up the files but I'm unable to complete the transfer because the files are "write protected" and I don't know how to disable this. Can you help please?Solved52Views0likes4CommentsTurned on a really old computer and all my files went back to older versions
Short Version: Is there a way to just bulk undo the most recent sync of my Dropbox folder? Long Version: I don't use file syncing with Dropbox these days, preferring to manually upload specific files and folders as-needed for collaboration. I don't even have the desktop apps installed anymore. This past week I was cleaning up some clutter and found an old Mac mini, unused for at least five years. I plugged it in and turned it on to make sure it was in a condition suitable for recycling and the very old version of Dropbox that was installed immediately started syncing all of my files from 5+ years ago. So now my Dropbox folder is a mess and my quota is blown. Is there any way to undo this aside from manually sorting through my Dropbox folder? Thanks.52Views0likes3CommentsSupport insists they can't recover my files, but I worked on them a few months ago.
I have repeatedly contacted support regarding missing photos and files I’ve lots of photos including wedding photos missing . They say they were deleted a year ago and not retrievable this is not true as I looked and started to organise them in July this year. I’ve repeatedly asked for this to be escalated to a manager they just ignore my messages . This has been going on since September. I can’t find a phone number or anything to complain . I’ve never known anything so frustrating. I’m fuming where do I go from here . I want my files !! Anyone else had same issues ?53Views1like2CommentsMy version history is missing.

I just received an email from "no-reply" at Dropbox stating... You recently deleted 3948 files from your Dropbox account. If you want these files back, you can still restore them until 12/12/2025. After that, they’ll be permanently deleted. These are the files you deleted: SyncOperations.plist.lockfile and 3,947 files 11/12/2025 12:55 PM using Mac OS X 26.0.1 (link to see deleted files here, which seems legit) I definitely didn't do this. Dropbox seems to be working fine on all my devices. Is this a phishing attempt?Solved78Views0likes8CommentsI'm trying to restore files, but it says I don't have enough space.
Hello - I had a hard drive that died. I downloaded "EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac" and was able to recover everything. However, when I hit "Recover," then pick DropBox for its destination, it says I don't have enough space, which is wrong. I have 2 TB of space, and I'm only using 8.1% of that space. I AM trying to transfer 550 GB, but I have plenty of room. Anyone know how I can rectify this?Solved126Views0likes6Comments
