Simple Drag and Drop on iPad app to move files

Simple Drag and Drop on iPad app to move files

Ok - I’m on the Dropbox Plus on Ipad.

I collect a LOT of images that I’m continuously moving from one folder to another within Dropbox.

Generally it’s great - I just Drag it to the appropriate folder and it moves over! Awesome!

BUT … when I need to go back (even a single level) in the file tree - I have to go through the whole ‘move’ process … and navigate from scratch to find the folder it is in!

* HOW DO I drag UP - so it goes to the previous folder??

* OR See the File Tree in Columns (like in the Files App - which unfortunately has a host of other limitations

Alternatively - are there settings or add-ins that can:

* have a list of favourite folders as a starting point that you can GO TO -

as opposed to the automatic ‘recent folders’ list - which go to that exact folder (it just ‘chucks the file in’)

Any ideas would be fantastic

My current work-around:

* Yes - the search feature when moving is a huge blessing, but I’m sorting hundreds of images into different categories

* Sometimes I just save it back to Photos, and re-drag it to the correct spot on my next sorting round.

* I’ve yet to try using Dropbox and Files apps in Split screen - I’ll try that next.

but am I missing something blatantly obvious?

Hey @Carlareams, thanks for posting to our Community.

What you'd like to do with the drag and drop shouldn't really be possible, but just so we're positive, can you please clarify a couple of things?

Do you want to be able to drag up, so that you can find the photo you'll be moving to another location?

Or do you want to drag up, to get to the destination folder?

As for the list of favorite folders, have you tried starring them?

And you should be able to customize the sections you see on the "home" tab, by tapping the color palette at the top of the screen, to show the starred items.

I hope this helps!

Here’s a screenshot

and thank you for the fantastically quick response! 🥰

I’m currently in FOLDER 2, with the file: Reverse Truck.JPG

I can easily drag the file (down the file tree) into FOLDER 3

and if I click the file and drag it over the top of FOLDER 3 it will put the file in … or

If I click and drag over the top of FOLDER 3 and hold it there - it will even actually open folder

All I want to do is drag and drop the file the other way … UP into the preceding folder - FOLDER 1

Without going through the whole ‘move’ process and searching for the correct folder

Thanks for clarifying that, Carla, and happy Monday!

I'm afraid this is not currently possible when using our mobile app, however, I've passed your feedback along to our team, so thanks for taking the time to post about this.
