Folders
48 TopicsDeliberate omission of critical folders for Basic accounts.
I would like to bring to your attention a concerning practice that appears to affect free-tier users. Dropbox is not any more secure without external backup. It has become evident that certain shared folders (which are visible and accessible in read-only mode under a single account) are intentionally excluded from backups and event logging for users on the free plan. This omission makes it effectively impossible to track or recover any changes or deletions, as: Backup history is almost not available for free accounts. Event and activity logs are retained for only 30 days in the free tier. No relevant events or actions appear in the logs, even when changes or deletions are suspected. This issue has been reported and discussed by multiple users across various forums and communities, with many suspecting that folders are being deliberately hidden or removed in free accounts as a way to pressure users into upgrading to a paid subscription.40Views0likes2CommentsHow can I move a shared folder I don't own out of my root directory?
I have clicked on a link to see a shared folder for which I have editing privilege. The folder is in my dropbox in the root directory, but it is no use to me there, I need it in another place in the directory structure. I cannot see how to move it, I can move the directories inside the main folder, but then it will disappear form the other peoples dropbox. I do not mind having two copies of it all as I have the space, but need to find a way to either move the main directory or the sub directory's to a different location within my dropbox without causing an issue to the person who shared with me and keep two way link enabled. I am doing this online in the web application, I do not use the desktop application, Thank you79Views0likes4CommentsIs there any way to delete files that are waiting to be synced?
Dear Dropbox team, I created a folder to store some results, which amounted to ~ 1 million files. Now, when I try to delete it, a message pops up saying: "availability status: sync pending". The problem is that, because there are so many files, I don't know when the syncing process will end, and I'd like to delete such a folder as soon as possible. I tried pausing the sync and moving the folder out of dropbox, but to no avail. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!337Views0likes13CommentsI can't rename a folder by clicking the pencil icon on the Dropbox website.
When I go to rename a folder by clicking the new pencil icon, the folder name is fully selected but I cannot unselect it. For example: I want to change the name of a folder. I click the pencil icon and click in the place where I want to make a change. The field flashes, but the text remains selected and I can't change the name. When i try to delete the folder it ask for admin rights, even tho I am the only admin and also made sure to check the needed acces from the property panel, security tab.134Views0likes4CommentsAutomation won't apply to existing files. How can I achieve that?
I have a directory with a very large number of files (several thousand) that I only access online. All of the files have names based on their date of creation (eg 2025-07-01-7:00.txt). I would like to organize these into subdirectories based on their date. From the dropbox website, I added an automation to sort these files into subfolders based on the month of file creation. I clicked on "Apply to existing files" when creating the automation. However, once the process starts, I get a Notification: "Automation will apply to new files added to (Folder), but not to existing files" Why isn't it applying the automation to existing files? How can I organize the existing files? There are too many files to do this by manually clicking boxes. Thanks.328Views0likes11CommentsGive us better tools to organize our folders.
Hey how about y'all give us some more options for organizing our folders. The three that you have are basic and honestly suck. Seems like a pretty simple thing to do and it doesn't take much digging on the internet to find out that people are pretty dissatisfied with the lack of options. Come on now it's 2025. I've been with you guys for a while but y'all need to catch up or I'm switching. ✌️145Views0likes3Comments
