327 Topics'Last Modified' column not showing date & time
When using Dropbox on a desktop, the "Last Modified" column now displays messages such as "10 minutes ago," "22 hours ago," and "last month." I found having it show the actual dates and times to be more useful. Is there a way to change the format of the column back to the way it was?106Views2likes6CommentsView shared photos as a gallery
When I share a Dropbox link to a folder with photographs, the web link is not optimized for photo viewing on any platform (phone or desktop). The thumbnails are too small and compressed. And on a phone's web browser, users can swipe through individual photos, but it requires two separate taps, thereby quickly becoming cumbersome. I am suggesting the idea to have Dropbox photo folders appear as a dynamic, tiled gallery, much like on a dedicated iOS or Android app. Google Drive's photo gallery is a great example of how to implement such a feature on Dropbox.27Views0likes3CommentsSuddenly cant create multiple folders at once
I use dropbox online for work. We have to create multiple folders a day for multiple clients. For years now, the easiest thing to do has been to click "Create Folder" and then use /'s to tack on the rest of the folders within. So for example Client Name/Current Policies/Address/Policy Name In doing so, the Policy Name folder would be created inside the Address folder, and so on with the Client Name folder being the main folder in the tree. This was working for me just yesterday. Today, when I try to create folders in that manner, I get this error: The following characters are not allowed: \ / I'm assuming this is some new implementation, though I cannot for the life of me figure out why they feel it would be necessary to do so. Creating each folder in the tree one by one is tedious and time-consuming and cannot possibly go over well with the plethora of businesses that do their work through dropbox and have to regularly create multiple client folders. Anyway, my question is, is there a workaround, or another way to create multiple folders that I'm missing? For reference, I cannot use the app version on my computer; I have to use the online version.107Views1like6CommentsMy Dropbox app is stuck syncing files on Windows 11 after an advanced reinstall.
Device Desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 My desktop app has been stuck syncing for about a week. We ran out of space on our work Dropbox network (80TB used). I freed up around 20TB of space and all PC's on the network apart from mine successfully (after some time) synced the changes. Mine however was stuck at 5.5 million files syncing. I left it to do its thing for several days with no change. So I followed the "advanced reinstall" instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall. The reinstall was successful and it seemed as though things were moving again. However for the last few days I've been stuck with between 12,000 and 16,000 files syncing. The number gradually goes up day to day. I'm working on Dropbox still, as are my colleagues so this may be why. I have to manually download my colleagues files and place them where they should be syncing before using them. When I hover my mouse over the DB icon in the system tray it says its downloading the 16k files, uploading around 40 files. But very little download up upload bandwidth is actually being used. I have a gigabit connection so I don't believe its actually doing much at all on the network. How can I fix this? We have around 60TB of files on our DB network and I have around 500GB of that synced at any given time. Thanks for any assistance!183Views1like18CommentsDeliberate omission of critical folders for Basic accounts.
I would like to bring to your attention a concerning practice that appears to affect free-tier users. Dropbox is not any more secure without external backup. It has become evident that certain shared folders (which are visible and accessible in read-only mode under a single account) are intentionally excluded from backups and event logging for users on the free plan. This omission makes it effectively impossible to track or recover any changes or deletions, as: Backup history is almost not available for free accounts. Event and activity logs are retained for only 30 days in the free tier. No relevant events or actions appear in the logs, even when changes or deletions are suspected. This issue has been reported and discussed by multiple users across various forums and communities, with many suspecting that folders are being deliberately hidden or removed in free accounts as a way to pressure users into upgrading to a paid subscription.19Views0likes1CommentNo Dropbox options when I right-click files in the Dropbox folder

We would like a (business-focused?) option where we can set a maximum percentage of free disk storage that the Dropbox app is able to use on-disk —ideally to be set within the Dropbox Admin Console and apply to all accounts, though with exceptions available, similar to how the "Storage limit per member" & associated "Exceptions" settings work today— plus a "hard stop" limit, e.g. pause syncing if free storage is <10 percent of total disk space. The general idea here would be if a system has 1TB of storage and 200GB already used for system/apps/email/whatever, Dropbox should not be able to use more than 80 percent of the currently-remaining free space. So in this example, assuming no change to non-Dropbox storage usage, if Dropbox's locally-synced storage usage exceeds ~640GB of downloaded files an actionable alert gets presented to the end user… and if they exceed the disk usage quota syncing gets paused until they free up storage, ideally by setting Dropbox files to online-only. This usage limit would need to scale dynamically, so that when Dropbox is using 200 GB (leading to 400GB total disk usage) and other processes on the system claim another 250 GB of storage (650GB total usage), Dropbox is now only allowed to claim another 280GB of the remaining 350 GB storage from that point in time. If other processes keep claiming free disk space the Dropbox app's limit should dynamically adjust until the hard-stop limit. This would help prevent situations we see now where somebody sets an entire project folder to offline mode (accidentally or without realizing just how much storage the folder will use) the Dropbox app will happily download files until the disk is completely full …which then causes all kinds of unfortunate knock-on effects and can be tough to reverse. With the addition of the Sync & Storage dashboard to make it easier for folks to see what is using up their space and quickly free up storage via Smart Sync Online-only mode, leveraging that to get people to offload Dropbox files —especially via a progressive series of alerts when their Dropbox folder is approaching/at the disk usage quota— would help prevent these disk-full situations caused by Dropbox. Thanks!62Views1like1CommentExport folder of scattered files on Android to access from a third party app
Hello, I'm on Android, trying to access files from a third party app. I can't seem to find the files on the local device even when I have them marked as offline accessible. I see there's a way to export an individual file, but the large number of files I'm trying to have access to are spread through a bunch of folders and I need to keep the folder structure intact, so it's not feasible to manually download each file. Is there a way to get my Dropbox files into a folder that I can access with a third party app somehow? This seems like a pretty basic use case so I'm frustrated I can't seem to find a way to do it.48Views0likes5Comments
