Folders
9 TopicsCan I have multiple users, each with their own security?
I'm backing up User Folders for several friends. I'd like to be able to find a way to do that so each person can log on to an account and see only their own files. I don't care if they see other folder names ... I just don't want them to access the information in those folders. Is there a way to do this with Dropbox? Currently I back up everything to a local NAS. It works fine but lacks two things: the only person who can access the NAS and see the folders is me. Second, if I gave additional access to each user, then every user could see every other user's information. Thanks.32Views0likes3CommentsSet up Dropbox to sync to external storage
Hi, I've searched for answers but I couldn't find anything that's less than 5 years old, and I'd like to figure out the answer before I make a mistake that I can't fix. Currently, I selectively sync some of the photos because there are lots of them. I'm out of space on the computer, and I want to move my Dropbox files to an external drive so that I no longer have to sync selectively. I want a local copy of all of my Dropbox files. According to what Dropbox said years ago (would't let me post the link so pasting the text), if you unplug a drive while Dropbox is running, Dropbox might start deleting your files. Is this information accurate? Thank you __________________________________ Dropbox can indeed be used with an external hard drive as long as you can ensure the drive is always connected to your computer while Dropbox is running. If the drive is ever disconnected from the computer while Dropbox is running there is a small chance that the Dropbox software will start deleting files before realizing that the entire drive has been removed. Additionally, you should ensure that the file system of the external drive meets the file system requirementsas found in the following Help Center article: https://help.dropbox.com/installs/system-requirements (As you mentioned a new PC, I guess you're (going to be) using a Windows device so you'll need to make sure that theDropbox folderwill be on an NTFS-formatted hard drive) To move your Dropbox folder to an external drive use the steps in the following Help Center article:https://help.dropbox.com/installs/move-dropbox-folder [The location you select is the folder the Dropbox folder will be moved to, rather than the folder your Dropbox files will be stored in.]18Views0likes1CommentHow do I sync files so they download to a hard drive/are available for offline use?
Title, but I just got a new hard drive, installed dropbox, and selective sync'ed all my folders. I've turned on the "offline mode" so that files that are synced should start downloading to my hard drive. However, none of the downloading starts after doing this. All files still show a grey cloud icon. How can start the process?Solved41Views2likes2CommentsHow do I choose a different location for my Dropbox folder? I have MacAir Sonoma 14.0
I have Mac air Sonoma 14.0. On my old computer I was able to place the Dropbox folder on my desktop. With this new laptop, I am unable to change the folder location. If I go to library and find the Dropbox folder and place it on my desktop, it says I won’t be able to connect to Dropbox until I put the folder back in its original spot. How do I put the folder on my desktop?306Views0likes5CommentsCan I sync two personal accounts on one computer?
I have 2 separate dropbox accounts. One is my personal account and one is my Dropbox Plus account for my work (they use separate email addresses). I want to be able to have both dropboxes available at the same time on my imac. I am logged in to my personal account, when I click on the icon in the top menu bar and then on my avatar the only option I can see are to add a Team Account which I don't have (I did try it and it didn't work). There doesn't appear to be an option to log out of my personal account and log back in to the Plus account. At the moment I am having to use my web browser to access the Plus account which is not as easy to use as the desktop app. Is it possible to be logged in to both accounts at the same time or is there an easy way to add the plus account to the app and quickly switch between the accounts using the desktop app?Solved1.3KViews0likes13CommentsUnable to move Dropbox folder from users to C drive as I'm getting an error

Personal Plus I have a Mac with 512 GB space. While the SSD is helpful for editing and such, I need to free up some space but I still need my files to be available in dropbox. I want to move my project folders that are within that Dropbox folder to an external disk. I need those folders within the external disk to retain sync with my Dropbox folder. I have the backup option set up but I want the files (photos) to be seen directly from the DB app and not through the backup option. Is this allowed?Solved975Views0likes4Commentsafter update have error in group folder so need to resync. but old path is gone
