111 Topics"Green tick with white background" but I see this icon on almost all of my files.
I've been a user and paid subscriber to Dropbox for about a decade. I use Drobox for sharing my files across multiple devices and occasionally for sharing files with other people who don't always have Dropbox accounts. I don't work as part of an organisation so I don't use any of the team or business related features. I often recommend people use Dropbox over other cloud storage as I've always been impressed with Dropbox. I've just started seeing the normal green background tick replaced with a white background tick on multiple files and folders. According to the help pages these white background ticks can only appear on folders yet I have them on multiple files. The help page says this green tick with a white background and green circle 'Contains files that are both available offline and online-only. A white circle with a green outline and a green checkmark can only appear on a folder. It means the folder contains a mix of files and folders that are ”available offline” and “online-only”.' Looking at the files it looks like some of these are files I've previously shared with other people but that doesn’t match the description here. My recolection is the shared folders had a different icon but that seems to have changed. What would be nice would be for a company to be consistent with their icons rather that occasionally going for a total redesign just because someone has said it's fashionable to have a new look. If you have to have a new look please, at least, keep the basic symbolism consistent with the past for the sake of your long term loyal customers. When you do release an update please also release an update of the help files as the statement that 'A white circle with a green outline and a green checkmark can only appear on a folder' is not true as I have it all over my files.11KViews2likes6CommentsMobile app on iOS frozen due to an ad pop-up
hi, I have recently found that when opening my dropbox app on my iPhone 16 pro, after about 5 secs the screen is filled with the dropbox advert 'Try the best of Dropbox for free' this covers the whole screen and there is no way of shutting it down. See the screenshot below. Any suggestions apart from the normal, log out log back in again, would be gratefully received. Thanks, JillSolved40Views0likes4CommentsThere are no green check-marks on any files in my Dropbox folder on Windows 10.
This is a Windows 10 machine. I have tried quitting and restarting the dropbox app. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I am viewing the correct folder -- I clicked the folder icon on the dropbox app. My other machine, a laptop with Win 11 on it shows the green checkmarks properly. It would be nice to have these checkmarks so I can see at a glance if a file is synced or not, rather than opening the app and hunting through the sync history.Solved18KViews3likes11CommentsNeed all my files accessible locally. On my machine there's no option to "Make Available Offline."
Honestly, this seemingly late "bringing to the forefront" (I guess you'd call it) of the whole "Online Only" vs. "Make Available Offline" thing has been more of a headache than a help, if I may offer my opinion. I purchased a new ultra-portable Windows computer which has a 256GB SSD on board, but I plan on using my Dropbox files with it, and I have well over 256GB worth of stuff in my Dropbox. The thing is that I'm often in situations in which I need offline access to my files. So I purchased a 1 TB microSD card, which will never leave its slot in this machine. Heck, I can't even retrieve it, it seems. I mounted it so that it isn't considered "Removable Media" by the computer, and then I proceeded to install Dropbox on the computer, with the intent of using the 1 TB card exclusively for Dropbox content...offline. I left my machine to sync overnight, and what do you know? Everything has a stupid cloud next to it. I have no option to "Make Available Offline," either in the file/folder context menu or in the Dropbox application > Preferences > Sync menu. If this is by design, it's a pitifully stupid design. I'm going to whatever lengths I can to make this work the way I envision, but I'm going to be awfully disappointed if Dropbox doesn't respect use cases that might not necessarily conform to a narrow definition. If it's an issue with a recent update to the application, then please bug the developers posthaste.Solved25KViews1like125CommentsThe Dropbox folder icon appears as a blank page on my newly-installed Windows 11.
Application Affected Dropbox (Microsoft Store version) Device Windows 11 Custom Build PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro 24H2 and now 25H2 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 234.4.5591 Question or Issue On my new PC I have installed Dropbox via the Microsoft Store. It is all working, except the Dropbox icon itself is wrong in Explorer for my Dropbox folder. It is just showing a plain white piece of paper. Again this is a brand new system with a brand new install of Windows 11 Pro that I did myself - nothing weird, I didn't use any of the means to "debloat" - it is just a default Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 install. I had the problems on 24H2 and it upgraded to 25H2 the other day and that has not changed the issue. It is more of an annoyance than anything because my eyes are used to looking for the dropbox icon appearance to find it and the plain white paper doesn't stand out so much.Solved351Views0likes13CommentsHow to view the full date in a directory listing on the site?
Device Web Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Firefox/Chrome MacOS Question or Issue How do I view full dates, not relative dates, when listing files and folders? So basically: <filename> <type> <2025-11-30 21:55> Not "one hour ago" nor "six months ago" Relative dates mean nothing to my use cases.71Views0likes6CommentsThe behavior of Dropbox tray Icon is completely wrong on Windows 10
I can't believe this problem has not been addressed since 10 years ago, and also it get worse with the recent UI revamp of the user interface. All app having a tray icon agent should follow a well-defined behavior when interacting with the user, depending on mouse gesture: Right Mouse Button Expected behavior Show a contextual menu for selecting options Current behavior It opens a popup window, user need to press CTRL+LMB to see the menu Left Mouse Button (single click) Expected behavior Show a popup form if applicable Current behavior A form is shown, then it is hidden, then it is shown again flashing Left Mouse Button (Double click) Expected behavior Execute a default action Current behavior If both open the dropboox root folder AND flash the main form on and off Please, it's time to address this issue, comeon dropbox. Right mouse button should show just the contextual menu Left mouse button should show the control form, with toggle, but without flashing on/off Double click should just open the root folder, without showing the form It's all about very wrong tray icon behavior at this time.156Views0likes13CommentsDropbox options not appearing when right clicking in Explorer on Windows 11
I am running latest versions of Windows 11 and Dropbox using just a single Dropbox account login. When I go into File Explorer, the right click option to see Dropbox has disappeared. I read a few of the possible solutions on this site, especially the one about max 15 Overlay Identifiers and the suggestion to move the options around to ensure Dropbox appears inside the first 15 in the Registry list. However, if you look at below, OneDrive is using positions 1-7 and Dropbox is using 8 to 17. I am not sure how to manage this without causing problems with OneDrive. Any help will be very much appreciated!Solved142Views0likes4CommentsWrong status icons showing on subfolders set to online only on Windows
Device HP Elite 8200 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) WIndows 10 Pro v22H2 ESO Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (234.4.5905) See attachment The four subfolders Year 2021, Year 2022, Year 2023 and Year 2024 are in a parent folder called "Film Archives" which is set to "online-only". The parent folder shows the correct icon, all of the thousands of subfolders within those four subfolders show the correct icon, but those four subfolders do not. They show the "Available on this device" icon. The properties for those four subfolders show "Size on disk: 0 bytes", so there cannot be any offline files in those paths causing this. When I right click any of those folders, there is no option to "Make online only" I have searched and deleted hidden and system files such as "Thumbs.db" and "Desktop.ini" but it has not made any difference. I have even tried renaming them, and creating a new folder and trasferring all the content to new folder. The new folder got the wrong icon I really need this to function correctly because users are adding content to these folders from connected workstations Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?101Views0likes7CommentsFolders and files status icons not working as intended on Windows
Application Affected Dropbox App for Windows Device Acer Helios Neo 16 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 24H2 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 233.4.4901 Question or Issue After the last update, I can see the new Status column with the Icons of the folder/files in windows explorer. From my understanding, the basic Icons should be like this: - Blue Cloud Icon: If the file/folder is only online - Green Check Icon Outlined: If the folder is mixed with online and offline files - Green Check Icon Filled: If the file is offline or the whole folder is offline But, it is showing like this: - Blue Cloud Icon: If the file/folder is only online or the folder is mixed with online/offline files - Green Check Icon Outlined: If the folder or file is offline (If I double clicked the file and opened) - Green Check Icon Filled: If folder or file is offline (If I right clicked on the folder/file and selected the "Make Available Offline" option) It doesn't make any sense for me the way it is now. The two types of green check icons represent the same Status. I have almost 40TB on my company dropbox. Most of the files will be online any given time. So, I want rapidly see the ones who aren't. Here's some screens with the problem: There's only one file online, and the folder is with the Blue Cloud Icon. I've contacted the support and they are scaling up the problem, but I also wanted to check here if anyone's with the same (frustrating) problem.Solved338Views1like13Comments
