I have been using dropbox to store and access microsoft documents on my mac for months but out of nowhere this morning when I clicked to open a document I was told 'Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges'. I created the document so I don't see why there would be an issue. Does anyone have advice on how to fix this? Thank youSolved110KViews0likes24CommentsCannot save changes to Microsoft Word Online documents in shared Dropbox folders.
Greetings. The issue. Any MS Word document that I create in a shared Dropbox folder or add to the folder cannot be edited in Word Online without getting the following error message: Couldn't save latest changes. To avoid losing the highlighted changes, copy and paste them into the document in a new tab. The message is in a yellow banner at the top of the document. Specs. I'm running Firefox Developer Edition 114.0b9 (64-bit) under Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) x86_64. I have a free "Basic" Dropbox account, and a free Microsoft account (no 365 license). Things I've tried. I've tried logging into my Microsoft account, reloading Word Online, and trying again. I even tried recreating the entire document when signed in to my Microsoft account. I've tried creating the document in another subfolder of the shared folder. I've tried different formats, including ODT, DOCX and DOC. I've tried adding MS Word files to my shared folder in different ways, that is: By using the Dropbox web interface and its "Create" dropdown; By copying and pasting a file into the shared folder, again using the Dropbox web interface; By adding the file to the synced folder on my Linux system. I've tried setting the share options in Word Online to "Anyone with [the] link can edit". After each of all these different attempts, I would reload the document and try to change the file again, with no success. I would also close the tab and reopen the document afresh from the Dropbox interface. Even after doing this, the same error appears a few seconds after making any change, whatever that be, to the file. Some examples of different changes I've tried making to the document include adding text, removing text, changing the spell check language for the document as a whole, changing the font of some or all of the text, adding comments, and so forth. Doing even a single one of these changes results in the error described earlier, meaning that the number of changes made to the files is unrelated to the problem, as opposed to what some have suggested online on other forums. A quick search on the internet shows that many people are complaining about the very same issue to Microsoft, although Microsoft staff argue that this is a Dropbox-related problem, and don't suggest any working fixes. I say this in all due respect to both Microsoft and Dropbox staff and community, and am not accusing anyone for the problems I am experiencing. It is noteworthy that this error does not occur when creating or adding an MS Word file to an unshared Dropbox folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless.Solved28KViews0likes3CommentsCannot Change Excel online date format

Hello, I am using Dropbox (v206.5) on my iPad (up to date with IOS 14.01) and for most word documents I am able to open them from Dropbox app and edit them in word with no problem. Periodically, when I open them, the document will open in word, but I am unable to make changes to the document (can't even type or change text). I have checked to make sure that the documents are not "read only" and I when I try to open the documents on another device (my iMac), I am able to open and modify the documents with no problem. I have also check to make sure that the documents are not open on any other device. I have also tried to uninstall and re-install both the Microsoft word app and the Dropbox app on my iPad. Any other ideas on what may be going on? thanks in advance.21KViews0likes27CommentsWhy do I need a license to edit Word and Excel files now?
So this just happened today. I can't create new Word or Excel files, nor can I edit existing ones. There is now a paywall that says I need a commercial Office 365 version. Um what? Working for an org that has a number of remote colleagues, we rely on being able to share and collaborate on our in-progress work. Having to pay for an essential embedded program on top of a subscription, without any warning, is not cool.20KViews3likes93Commentscan't save files from Office365-app to Dropbox - supposedly write protected
Hello there! Starting yesterday all of a sudden I can't save files to my Dropbox via the Office 365-app anymore. I get a message telling me that the file is write protected, which it isn't. It tells me to save a copy, when trying to do that I get the same error message. Up until the day before yesterday everything worked like a charm. I haven't knowingly changed anything about my smartphone's configuration, no new apps etc. Had anyone ever experienced this issue? Any ideas on how to solve it? Thank you! I use the Dropbox app on my iphone. I used to be able to open excel files in excel by using âopen with - excelâ. But now it sends me to a screen saying Microsoft Integration wants permission. I hit the Allow button (the only other option available is âlearn moreâ) and it just takes me back to the list of files in Dropbox. I can never get past that. I used to be able to open them from the Excel app as well, but not now. What has changed and what can I do?Solved16KViews0likes32Comments"Error 403: disallowed_useragent" when trying to sign in to Dropbox to access Excel file
Please help. I'm using a Pixel 6 with Android version 12 updated 7/5/22. I was trying to open an excel file on Dropbox with Excel. It then brought me to this page saying "Sign in to Dropbox to link with Microsoft Office Integration" in the Excel app. I chose "Sign in with Google" since that's how my Dropbox was setup. After entering my email and password, it told me "You do not have any security keys registered for this account.", so I chose "Try another way". Then I chose "Tap Yes on your phone or tablet", which then caused Google to send me a notification asking "Are you trying to sign in?" I chose "Yes, that's me.", then the Authorization Error page showed up, with the following message: Authorization Error Error 403: disallowed_useragent You canât sign in from this screen because this app doesnât comply with Googleâs secure browsers policy.
