I have set passwords on folders I need to share with people who are not team members. (added a password to editing dan viewing links and saved it) When I test this it by sending the link to an email address not part of the team it does not ask for a password. Any suggestions?Solved8.4KViews0likes17CommentsRegulate access to folders
We are a small society with a board, secretariat and several committees . We have a business Dropbox account with 4 team members. What we need: Multiple folders that are owned by Admin. Access to these folders upon invitation (but not through a link) by coworkers and people outside of de Dropbox Team. Some people should have edit rights, most should have viewing rights. Current status: folders are owned by Admin. Admin made folders inside the Team Folder. Team members were denied access (because I do not want all of them to have access) and I invited a Team member and people outside Dropbox team, some with edit and some with viewing rights. That is how I want it, but making it so seems to have messed with 1 Team member’s access both to Team folder as with a folder it owns itself. Can this be caused by how I organized things or not? Dropbox chat suggests I use groups to grant access to folders. Is this necessary/better? I don’t think I can give some group members edit and others viewing rights? I am questioning how many team members I need. Maybe 1 is enough, or just a second as backup?Solved6.4KViews1like3CommentsPDF "view only" share link continues to allow editing
I have edited both my profile settings and the pdf settings specifically to generate a "view only" link. However, every time I go to share the link I continue to see on the top bar that the pdf is editable. Not only is it editable but anyone can edit it for everyone. What do I need to do to change this? I have even logged out of my Dropbox account and used the link to see if it changed anything, it did not. My PDF is clickable with links but, I have tried other PDf's that were not to see if it changed anything and it did the same thing. I need a view only link. How do I get this?Solved3.6KViews0likes7CommentsApr 20 2024 Team Folder / Personal Folder Update is affecting my workflow
RE https://help.dropbox.com/plans/upcoming-business-team-changes#beforechecklist This has created a HUGE NIGHTMARE!!! Have called into support and created several tickets to this but doesn't seem there's any urgency or response from the 'escalation team' 1. As an ADMIN I cannot see or manage ALL of the folders and files in our Dropbox account because of the Team and Personal Folders - So now I can't see what data is being duplicated and increasing our storage. 2. As an ADMIN I cannot move data from a Team Folder. Also cannot COPY data out of a Team Folder, can only move or copy into another Team Folder 3. Paths and mappings have been ruined to our local data and Synology NAS devices using Cloud Sync. - Now this requires us choking our bandwidth for days/weeks so that we can restore our local data.3KViews1like8CommentsI have edit permissions on some folders but I'm getting an error editing or renaming files
I have a set of folders which were shared with me. The owner gave me edit permissions, and tried to give me all possible permissions - but I cannot edit or rename or change any of the files. From the Dropbox web interface, asking permissions, it shows two things - 1) You don't have permission to manage the membership of this file, 2) (my email ID) = can edit So it seems like I should be able to edit or rename the file(s), but I cannot. The original (sharing) owner is also shown. But - Trying to rename one of the files on Windows from the explorer interface fails; "You need permission from myComputer\myName to perform this action" But, that is who I am logged in as, and it has admin privileges. Same for trying to duplicate it in place or create a new file there; "Destination Folder access denied, you need permission to perform this action." I can read or open or copy the file to any other place outside of the shared hierarchy. Asking Windows about permissions on the file, it shows I so have full permissions. Asking about my specific user ID (as above) for effective permissions: It does show I can read files and change permissions, take ownership, and read and write attributes, but not create files or write data (?) What permissions do the owner who is sharing it with me need to set, and how? (I could not get insert image to work here...)Solved3KViews0likes21CommentsHow to remove third party app permissions?
A third party iOS print app requested access to my Dropbox contents for the purpose of printing individual files to a printer without AirPrint support. It failed miserably. How, in Dropbox, may I manage which third party apps have access to my account contents so I may revoke it? I've taken over management of an organisation with several large business dropbox accounts. I can see we have a large amount of data that has been shared with external parties, there has been no oversight of this and it would appear that there are some documents that are sensitive that have been shared that shouldn't have been. I really need to audit the entire tenant, and I will need to do so reasonably regularly going forward, but I can't seem to find the tools to do so. Other threads on this site suggest that our only option is to use the the command line API tool to script our own audit of Dropbox access? Can you confirm that this is the case? To be explicit, what I am looking for is to be able to list folders / folder paths and which groups or individual users are able to access that folder, or if some other sharing feature has been used to allow access to those files outside of the immediate users that have primary access to the dropbox tenant. Are there any tools that allow this for Dropbox?2.2KViews1like5CommentsNeed to give permission to a new user but I only have edit ability.
I can edit files on our church Dropbox, but I can't add a new member. The Dropbox 'owner' has an account, but he passed away a year ago. I know his Dropbox account id and password but when I log in it sends an email with a login code to his .comcast email account. Nobody know the password for his email account. Consequently I can't any new users. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have shared files that are available with a public link for anyone to download. I have been doing this for years, but with my latest file I am getting automated emails asking for permission to access the file. The shared link should work for everyone. I even tested it by logging out and then accessing the file and downloading it and it never triggered an email asking me for permission. Anyone know how I can fix this? Are these people actually being blocked from accessing the file, or is the automated email a mistake?2.1KViews0likes3CommentsTeam member can't access team folders
I dont know where this question is supposed to go. Please excuse me if i am in the wrong place. I created a team and 2 team folders. I invited team members. One of them has accepted and shows on the admin dashboard as a member. She can see the team folders but the icons are grayed out and she cannot access them.
