Hi there, We would imagine this has been requested before, but hopefully it can’t hurt to ask again. Many in our team use iPadOS for work, and the ability to send a File Request through the iPadOS would be much appreciated. Much thanks!158Views0likes3CommentsPersistent Shared Links (Regardless of the status of the user who created the link)
Our organization is approximately 45 people. Among other many other uses, we use Dropbox to share links with one another. This helps us locate documents in Windows File Explorer (regardless of the local path on a given machine) and sometimes to support needs on projects. Something we learned the hard way recently is that Dropbox links only last as long as the user who created them. This was extremely disappointing to learn. We were building a database for a project that had thousands of person-hours in it. Crucially, this database needs to live on for our client beyond our involvement. Each row referred to a location on our shared drive where an asset was located. As there are storage limitations within the database platform we were using (AirTable), it made sense to share a link to the location on Dropbox where it was stored. Bonus points that we could control access to that asset on Dropbox's side, rather than having to filter out through access controls within the database. This worked well until we noticed some links were leading to errors we had never seen before. We troubleshooted for some time until we realized all of the broken links were created by users who were no longer with our company. On a project like this, most of the grunt-work was done by temporary interns. This led us to the realization that Dropbox is ill-suited to this task because links are related only to the user, not to the organization paying for the subscription. We have now had to ask our client for a scope change to bring on a different cloud software because of this strange (and frustrating) behaviour. We are testing Google Drive, Box, and One Drive. If any of these platforms allow persistent links, we will be seriously considering moving our entire organization over. Shared links in shared drives should persist indefinitely (or as long as the organization exists and is paying for a dropbox subscription).1.3KViews0likes6CommentsFlag file/folder for another team member
Collaboration feature, right click and select flag, dialogue allows you to select a team member or whole team, team members receive notification with clickable link to display the target *on their file system*, regardless of the OS platform they are using. Its currently impossible to share a file/folder location to another team member, sharing links go to the website with no way of jumping to the same location locally on their computer, and alias don’t work across platforms. Users are sending screenshots of file systems at each other or abbreviated path notes that are often incorrect. Alt implementation: if the target of a sharing link already exists in a recipients Dropbox add a ‘show in file system’ link to the email, alongside the link to Dropbox.com, or don’t even bother with the email and instead just notify with the link.147Views0likes2CommentsShared link bandwidth monitor for Dropbox users to prevent breaking bandwidth limits
A tool designed to monitor real-time bandwidth usage for Dropbox users, aimed at preventing the maximum limit of 1TB from being reached. This solution sends customizable alerts when bandwidth consumption reaches critical thresholds (e.g., 75%, 90%) and provides detailed daily or weekly reports. This way, users can proactively manage their service usage, ensuring continuous access without interruptions due to exceeding the bandwidth limit.112Views0likes2CommentsSend & Track feature: Automatic link disable after a set number of downloads
A new Send and Track feature of an automatic 'Link Deactivation' upon completion of a predetermined number of downloads (example: 1-10 downloads). The number of downloads would be predetermined by the account member at the time of link creation and could be modified at any time by member.19Views0likes2CommentsDefault Share Option should be "View" not "Edit"
Hello, I am a Dropbox business admin that shares a lot of links with people outside of my organization. I'm not sure when it happened but as some point the default for sharing switched from "View" to "Edit". When you click the "Copy Link" button, it creates an edit link, not a view link. When you click the three dots, then go "Share with Dropbox", and the pop up window appears, the default is "can edit". Furthermore, in the dropbox app (Finder on Mac), the "Copy Dropbox Link" option creates an edit link. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does not want random people being able to upload to my dropbox. To be sure, I do not want to get rid of "Edit", but making it the default seems an odd choice. This means that even the most diligent of user (myself) accidentally sends Edit links. People who are not diligent send them exclusively. Thank you!16KViews30likes27CommentsUser restrictions on bulk deletion or moving
It would be great if it were possible to set a user so they cannot perform bulk deletions or moves of files. One of the users, who does not have admin rights, accidentally moved a folder with 350,000 files. As a result, we lost the functionality of the links when returning the folder back. It would therefore be great if some users could be restricted so that it is not possible to move or delete files beyond a certain quota.230Views1like3CommentsView all the folders a person has been given access to and also remove other peoples access
I would like to be able to view all of the folders that a person has been given access to, and I would also like to be able to remove other people's access from multiple shared folders at the same time. This would greatly speed up the management of folder sharing - now I have to click on each folder and remove or add the person.130Views0likes2Comments
