After upgrading to macOS Ventura, I was prompted to upgrade to "Dropbox for macOS 12". I proceeded with that, it moved my Dropbox folder to ~/Library/CloudStorage and confirmed all was successful. Now when using Spotlight to search (I often type something like 'drawings folder' to open a folder called Drawings) the results in Spotlight show the Dropbox app icon beside the name of the item I want (rather than a Finder icon for folder or file). Hitting Enter or clicking on the result switches to Finder and does nothing, or sometimes will open the Applications folder and show the Dropbox app. It's not linking me to the actual file in ~/Library/CloudStorage. I have done the following and the problem is not solved: Restarted Ensured all files are available for offline access Rebuilt the spotlight index Unlinked Dropbox from this Mac, did a complete clean install of dropbox, performed the upgrade to v159.4.5870 and synced just one folder to begin Nothing works. Any suggestions??Solved61KViews20likes398CommentsSyncing Dropbox files to Android SD card - third party apps?
Hi everyone, As you may know, Dropbox doesn't sync files on Android any more as of last year or so (see this, for example). They used to be in sdcard>Android>data>com.dropbox.android>files, but the new "available offline" option stores them in the cache of the Db app, which other apps cannot access (you wouldn't be able to locate them with Files, for example), to ensure their safety, I would guess. The only way to use these files on your device apart from through the Db app is to "export" them after they were made "available offline" (so basically to properly download them locally), and it is thus impossible to do what Dropbox is meant to do in the first place : read and write synced files. I personally would like to edit note files on my computer and my phone and to get them synced by Db, but there seems to be no way to reach and edit locally stored (note) files with my note-taking app. The only workaround I found to this problem is using third party app that syncs files with your Dropbox repository, such as Dropsync or FolderSync, which were explicitly meant for that : "New files in your cloud account are automatically downloaded onto your device. [...] This is how Dropbox works on computers but not on Android. Two-way automatic synchronization should be an essential function of the official app. For whatever reason, it is not the case. Dropsync is here to fill the gap." [Dropsync app description] But then I am not too keen on adding more complexity to my workflow, increase the likeliness of some incompatibility or other "technical issues" to emerge in the future and, moreover, to potentially put my professional and personal data into more covetous digital hands than they already are in (free apps that manipulate my data? I sense what the product might be)... So my questions are : has anyone in here ever tried these solutions and did it work as planned? Any (unusual) worries to have regarding privacy with these solutions? And above all (@support people?), is there any way to circumvent the issue without these? Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, and apparently dropbox changed from program to "app" (hate them vs. full programs), every time I shut down my computer, it sits and waits for a half minute or more for something called Sprig Electron View, and finally shuts down. Apparently this has something to do with dropbox. If I manually quit dropbox before shutting down, then shutdown works almost instantly. I want that instantly. So, what is this program, can I remove it and still use dropbox, if so, how. Or how do I get it to stop holding up the shutdown command? Thanks.Solved20KViews4likes9CommentsUnable to 'Save to Files' on iOS
Hey Dropbox Hive Mind, . I've thus far been unsuccessful at trying to save a file to Dropbox on my iPhone. For example, when looking at a PDF (email attachment or a PDF in the iOS Notes App) or a photograph in Photos, I click the share button, navigate to "Save to Files" on the bottom row of icons, and then get to the following screen (see below) where Dropbox is greyed out. How do I fix this and get Dropbox to NOT be greyed out so that I can save files to Dropbox? Thanks for the help!Solved37KViews4likes2CommentsLogic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox don't show up in "Recent"
Hi all, this is a niche issue and probably not Dropbox's "fault", but thought I'd ask here just in case. Since I upgraded to the latest version of Dropbox for Mac (which moved the folder location, etc.), Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox no longer show up in File > Open Recent or in the Recent tab of Logic's startup window. The same thing was already happening with Google Drive for Desktop, so I would guess it's a general issue with the File Provider API. However, projects stored in iCloud Drive do show up in Recent. Other Apple apps (TextEdit, Pages) will show files from Dropbox in the Open Recent menu. (And Dropbox-stored Logic projects do show up in Recent Items under the top-left Apple menu.) Making the folders available offline doesn't help. Running Logic 10.7.6 in Ventura 13.1 on an M1 MacBook Pro. Any ideas?Solved17KViews2likes97CommentsAdd Dropbox as a place in Office 365 for Mac OSX
Hello, I'd like to add Dropbox as a place in Office 365 for Mac. I've found these instructions for windows (and here) but the corresponding options don't show up in the Mac version and, unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down any instructions for Mac. Does anyone know how do this? Is it possible? Thanks, Christopher P.S. Please let me know if there is a btter place to be posting this.Solved26KViews2likes35CommentsCannot access Dropbox on Kindle Fire Max 11
Application affected, Dropbox, Kindle Fire Max 11 Device: Kindle Fire Max 11 Operating System: Fire OS 8.3.3.8 Dropbox App version: Latest For the last few years I have used Dropbox almost daily, importing files into Songbook Pro. At the end of December I retired my Fire Max 11 and bought a new one. It has been working fine, but about a week ago I can no access Dropbox on my Fire Max 11 (I have plenty of room in Dropbox). The problem first started when I would log into my Mac's Kindle Dropbox, import a file to it, but nothing new would appear on my Dropbox Kindle, just older items. The last one I imported worked fine, but then it could not be deleted from Dropbox when I was through with it. Now when I would try to sign into Dropbox (on the Kindle) I get a message, "Can't connect to Dropbox. Make sure you're online, or try again later." I can still access Dropbox on my desktop Mac, no problem. I have twice deleted and reinstalled Dropbox on the Kindle, and numerous times restarted the Kindle. I have no problems with any other app. One month ago I retired my Fire Max 11 and bought a new one. I still have it, I suppose I could reregister it and see if it would work?135Views1like7CommentsWill my KeePassDroid info be impacted now that Dropbox Passwords is gone?
I use a password app call keepassdroid. It interfaces with my Dropbox account and keeps some of my login and passwords in a regular Dropbox folder. As far as I know, I am not using the Dropbox password application. Currently my program is acting normal, not being restricted as the Dropbox password keeper was supposed to be as it is phased out. Will my Dropbox folder which houses my keepassdroid information be impacted by the elimination of Dropbox password? Thank you!Solved115Views1like4CommentsNative files.app integration is buggy, doesn’t sync
Steps: 1. Install Dropbox on iOS 2. The native files.app integration is enabled by default 3. Set a folder to be available offline in the Dropbox app 4. Wait for the folder to sync 5. On another device create a file in the folder Expected: The file is synced to the mobile Dropbox app and the native files.app Actual: The file does not sync to the native files.app. You need to manually go and refresh to make that file sync. The problem this causes is when third party apps (like iawriter) try to use files synced by Dropbox, new files are missing. When edits are made to files that show up they always cause conflicts.669Views1like3Comments
